I used it once and it did the job very well. Easy to use.

Used to do multiple 3/4 schedule 40 galvanized pipe threads. The complete set looks to be High Quality. Have only used the 3/4" Bit. Not used enough to predict the complete set durability; but, the 3/4" remained in new condition thru cutting 10 sets of threads. Happy that I bought as the set is a Great Value. Used plenty thread cut oil and short - approximate 1/3 circumference strokes.

Worked well to cut the thread on the pipe. I worked with a die set before that took forever to catch the edge of the pipe and cut the thread, this one worked the first try with no issue.Wished the handle was longer for more leverage to make it easier to turn. Also, not a tool that you can use by yourself, need two to operate, one to hold the pipe while the other operates the tool

This is not a quality tool but will work fine if the "do-it-your-selfer" needs to make a limited number of threading projects. I give it 5 stars with the following caveats. Mine came with no instructions, so I had to figure everything out. The ratchet mechanism is poorly manufactured to slopy machine tolerances and operated very rough; consequently, I applied grease to the ratchet in the handle attachment point prior to use. The ratchet mechanism then operated fairly smoothly. Treat this tool with white gloves and it will get the job done for you. You need to take your time and not cut too much threads at a time. I was threading 1/2" black pipe and only cut 3/4's of the way around the circumference each time, then backing up two strokes to loosen the chips. I used my air hose to blow the chips out and then applied another squirt of oil. This way cutting threads was slow, but I did not break any of the cutting heads in the die. My 10 threads turned out perfect.

Ok: first things first. This isn't a quality tool. The cutting head is held in place using a spring steel retaining ring in a groove in the ratchet. It slips off easily during use, especially if youre using enough cutting oil, but if you're careful you can catch it.I had forgotten how much work it takes to hand thread black steel pipe. Last time I did was about 7-8 years ago, with ridgid threaders, and a good tri-vise at the beginning of my apprenticeship as an HVAC tech: I haven't touched the stuff since. Word to the wise: HAVE A MEANS TO HOLD THE PIPE YOU ARE THREADING THAT IS EXTREMELY RIGID, STABLE, AND SECURE; YOU WILL BE SUBJECTING THE PIPE TO UNGODLY AMOUNTS OF TORQUE. You'll either need a heavy bench-mounted vise with pipe jaws, or a chain vise. Cheapest options on here that'll do the job are in the 80+ price range. I picked up a decent vintage piece for 30 bucks after my ordeal.Or, you can do what I did, use a light-duty clamp-on-benchtop vise, stabilize the opposite side of the pipe with a pipe wrench, and make your life miserable in between squirts of cutting oil. Use your blood and tears as lubricant after the 50th time the vise slips off the bench. Character-building moments.I didn't achieve the greatest of results: several of my ends came out with chipped threads. That said; my purpose was simply to use some 3/4" black iron pipe as a set of desk legs for an 8' slab. The results were certainly good enough for that, but I wouldnt trust it in a NG or LP scenario.Could have been the sub par indonesian pipe from HD I was using, could be that I wasnt using enough cutting fluid, could be that I wasnt clearing chips often enough. Hell, it could also be partially due to my sub-par workholding setup. Try threading 16 pipes that way...woof. No fun. Also: I found that pre-beveling the edges of the pipe with an angle grinder helped considerably with making the job a bit easier. But overall? It certainly got the job done. I'd love to be able to afford the nicer, name-brand model...but at a 500% markup I just cant justify it.I recommend this kit, just know what you're in for when you buy it. Manually threading pipe is slow and deliberate process. And for gods sake, use some teflon tape when you put the joints together. I see guys in the field tape and dope all the time, but that seems to be a controversial subject. I'll wade into that one when Im dead. But seriously...I wish I had just gone this way originally rather than dumping 90 bucks on what ended up being pre-cut EMT with NPT threads stamped on the ends on this site. Some sellers on here sell 3/4 npt threaded pipe for a STEAL. And...well...that's because it has all the structural rigidity of a well cooked pasta. Never again, only real pipe for me from now on.Edited 05/15/20 to correct speling and grammar good make. Yeesh; I usually proof-read these things.
