When I saw the really sharp edges on these cutters I thought they'd punch out a piece of leather in 1 or 2 blows. It wasn't quite that easy. True, I was using a protective cutting surface designed for similar tools on different materials (cloth). The proper leatherworking pounding surface might make a difference. I tried both a regular hammer and an artificial leather working mallet. I also tried it with and without a wooden block on top to protect the top edge of the die. The leather I was cutting was a particularly tough one.I have even more use for these dies in cutting leather hard clay to make jewelry items and they work easily in that case. I'm also going to try them on multiple layers of cloth and handmade paper for applique and collage.In any case it's easy to push out your punching once it's done. I also like the way the manufacturer provided a reusable plastic box to store your dies and keep them sharp.

These are average dies. They give a good number of sizes which is nice but the dies are not all sharp. Each requires quite a few whacks with my mallet to get sharp edged pieces from well-cased leather. The metal is good though, and not flimsy. They come in a box in which they fit well. Convenient and safe to keep out of the way because they are sharp enough to cut human skin easily.I can work with this set.
