They light up when you put liquid inside automatically. Cute at first my grandkids love them. After a while that blinking can start getting on your nerves -

These were fun and bright! A couple of them battery didn't last very long, now they don't work. I like the quality of the cup and design. Can not put cup in water when washing. Water gets in the battery compartment. If they could figure that part out it would be an excellent cup for parties, nights out on the deck or patio.
