I didn't read the reviews prior to ordering these. I saw the title mentioned stainless steel but ignored it. Based on the price and past experience I decided there is no way they're actually decent stainless steel. I've ordered so many affordably priced imported parts and materials on the internet I know how the game usually works. My distrust ended up biting me in the end. The project I need these for requires enlarging one of the holes a couple sizes. I knew that going in but I wasn't worried about it. I was banking on the fact that these would be soft steel. Surely I'd zip a drill bit through them like I do on the carbon steel ones I normally use. When they arrived, before I even removed them from the package I knew I was in trouble. I saw the tell tale white protective film coating that anyone who has worked around a metal shop recognizes. I slapped a magnet on a stack of these and sure enough, it didn't stick. I peeled back the protective coating on one of the brackets and it looked like brushed stainless steel. Oh no. . . I got exactly what I ordered. Yes. I do realize the irony in being disappointed with an honest product description. My skepticism and distrust just made things more difficult for myself. For those that don't know, drilling stainless steel can be quite challenging. It isn't rocket science but stainless steel is a very hard material. Drilling it requires special techniques, the right drill bit, time and patience. Even with a pilot hole already started these braces will work harden if you aren't careful. You have to keep everything very cool. Get the bit and work material too hot and you're done. You'll work harden the steel making it even harder and more difficult to drill. You'll chew through cheap drill bits faster than you can chuck them up. All of that makes life more miserable than it needs to be.If you don't plan on drilling out the holes any larger these are a great buy. If you plan on enlarging the holes I'd highly recommend going with a non stainless steel option if you don't need the corrosion protection of stainless.I could have returned these but I won't. It isn't amazon or the seller's fault I chose to doubt the description. I'll slowly drill them out as a painful reminder that there are still honest product descriptions and sellers out there.Overall these are great quality. They definitely seem to be actual stainless steel. These are intended for use on inside corners so the exposed side is bright, shiny brushed stainless steel. It is protected by a white plastic covering that you peel off. The back side that you normally wouldn't see is a raw stainless steel finish.
