It seems like it was designed with exact precision and very little to no give for error. In my case, I had to remove the silicon washers from both ends or else it would not tighten the bottle all the way up, approximately 1/4" far from fully tightening down. Now it is about 1/64-1/32 which is normal with even a cotton filter. After drying my hands and using a towel, it could be sufficiently snugged up and stopped leaking. I didn't know that it is common knowledge to wet your filter for about 5 minutes in a bucket of water. So, at initial install I was very disappointed since my water pressure seemed to drop to almost nothing. After running some errands and opening up some faucets again, the flow was back to normal. Seems easy enough to clean with a little brush. I think overall, the cost will be greatly beneficial in the longevity of the filter over continuously purchasing disposable cotton filters.

Better than disposable in the long run.

We use water filters at my Alaska remote wilderness fishing lodge. We pump the water from the river through a our holding tank then pass it through three spin down filters of 100 micron then 50 micron then 33 microns. Next in line are these whole house filter in sequence of 25,10, 5 and 1 micron. We are at the mouth of our river and deal with twice daily tides from one to ten feet. The river bottom is silty sand. We are processing water for 15 to 35 persons daily. I tell you this so you can understand we are dealing with extreme conditions. The spin down filters carry the brunt of the load, we have to flush them out about 10 times daily. The 25 micron filters are also heavily used. I was using either folded or spun filters. We flushed them with water (in a housing we hook up backwards so the water flows from the middle outward) and compressed air (blow into the core so it blows from the smaller pores inside to the larger pours outside) to prolong their life, but we often used 2 to 6 of the 25 micron filters daily. This stainless steel filter has solved a very large problem for us. They are much easier to flush completely clean. We can tell from the amount of sand getting through them going to the 10 micron filters that they are performing at least on par with the spun or folded filters.Once these stainless steel filters are available in the 10, 5, and 1 micron openings I will immediately convert to them.
