I have a cheaper Ancel battery tester (BA101) and was kind of surprised that this one reported the battery as 73% healthy while the other tester came in so much lower (63%). Since I can't say which one is more accurate, I can't hold anything against this one. I was pleasantly surprised to see the testing modes work directly off battery power (AC power is only needed for charging). Speaking of charging, it works well and even helped improve the reported health of one of my batteries. The cranking test was pretty straight forward, but the alternator test would be easier with two people so one of them can maintain the 2500-3000rpm while the other watches the tester.

PROS* Informative display makes it very easy to use* A fully featured battery charger and maintainer* Ancel makes A LOT of automotive products so they're not just some no-name brand* Customer service is top notchCONS* At $149.99 at the time of writing, priced to compete against the well regarded Noco Genius 10* Battery health as reported by the unit does not seem to be accurate* Would not work with my Toyota Venza when connecting to the charging points under the hood. The battery is located in the trunk.* No SAE connector compatibility for quick connect/disconnectVERDICTThe display and ease of use are definitely a nice differentiator compared to most other units and Ancel is definitely targeting the higher end maintainers with their unit ($149.99 at the time of writing) as the Noco Genius 10 is also around this price. It's also worth noting that Ancel is a well established brand and they make a lot of automotive products, and using something on my car battery that I can trust is something that is important to me.The unit does the job and has no issues charging my car battery when clamped directly to the battery of my CR-V, but I did have issues getting this to work on my Toyota Venza which has the battery located in the trunk. There are positive and negative terminals under the hood of the Venza, but I kept getting a "clamp error" trying to connected to the locations specified. Another maintainer that I have that is much less fancy has no issues charging the Venza from the charging points under the hood, so might be something to keep in mind if you're not connecting this unit directly to the battery.Probably what bothered me most was the battery health doesn't seem to be accurate. As per my screenshots, it got "worse" after both running the Maintenance feature (94% down to 86%), as well as after running the Standard Charge test that I did on it a few days later (90% down to 84%). I don't think this is an actual problem of the maintainer not doing it's job. I just don't think whatever logic they're using to determine battery 'health' is accurate. At least the charge % seems accurate and increased during both tests.I had some issues with my unit, but customer service was excellent in getting it sorted out. Having good customer service is important, so full marks there. To conclude, if you want something from a known brand that has a nice LCD display for ease of use and works, this unit won't disappoint, but when priced similarly to the well regarded Noco Genius 10, it definitely puts it up against some stiff competition.

This charger is a versatile and reliable tool for maintaining and charging a variety of 12-volt batteries. One of the standout features of the BT521 is its smart charging capability. It uses microprocessor-controlled charging to automatically adjust the charging current and voltage to the needs of the battery, which helps to prevent overcharging and extends the life of the battery. The charger also has a desulfation function, which can help to restore batteries that have been damaged by sulfation. The BT521 is also very easy to use. It has a clear and intuitive LED display that shows the charging status and voltage, and it has a simple button interface for selecting the charging mode and starting the charging process. The charger is also compact and lightweight, making it easy to store and transport. In addition to its charging capabilities, the BT521 also functions as a battery tester. It can measure the voltage, cranking amps, and battery health of a 12-volt battery, and it can provide a pass/fail indication based on the battery's condition. This is a very useful feature for diagnosing battery issues and for determining when it's time to replace a battery.
