My OE batteries gave up the ghost, so I found these on Amazon and decided to give them a spin since they're about 1/4 the price of genuine replacements. They arrived quickly, professionally packaged and, partially charged so it was a 10 second evolution to exchange these into my ophthalmoscope. They work just as they should and had no trouble working with my W-A charger. I tried them in my otoscope too (which still has good OE batteries) and they worked just fine. I have no idea if they will last as long as the OE ones did (about 5 years) but, so far, they're working perfectly. I think that, for the price, they represent a good alternative to buying genuine replacements from W-A.

These replacement batteries are a great cost saving alternative to the OEM battery. I got them to replace a dying battery for my model 71050 Welch Allyn otoscope. These new batteries are the same size, but there is one difference in the design. The original battery has the negative terminal on its side (see picture showing both old and new batteries side by side) in the form of a strip of spring steel that makes contact with the side of the barrel of the otoscope. The scope’s screw-on end cap, which is normally where you would see the battery’s negative terminal making its connection, has a plastic disc (see pictures) that prevents the embedded coil spring from contacting the bottom surface of the battery. To make these replacement batteries work, you simply have to pull the plastic disc off of the spring. It takes about 5 seconds to pop it off… just pull on it while holding onto the spring. As with the OEM battery, to charge these new batteries you simply put one in the scope (button-end first) and replace the end cap (with the plastic disc removed), then unscrew the handle portion of the scope, which reveals a standard 110V plug that you insert into a wall outlet for a few hours. These batteries are an inexpensive and very simple way to restore your otoscope’s operating time between charges.

Dead or weak battery in your handle? Using two C batteries may work in a pinch, but these give the handles their full potential of 3.5 Volts and renewed brightness to the head. What more can you say? These fit and are rechargeable, just like the original batteries.
