I thought this would be a great idea, something to hold the metal when sawing. Problem is the steel clip that holds the top is so strong you can not even open it without removing the screws and taking the whole thing apart. It needs a clasp that is hinged so it can flip up and open and close. Also the base does not fit in the standard bench pin holder and it does not come with a bench pin holder. So no I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and to the manufacture consider changing the clamp and you might have a useful product design.

Not made of hardwood, it is soft wood but there may be a good reason for this.. Will not fit standard bench pin slot, however the clamping action is worth it if holding work is difficult. The jaws are lined with a glued on covering to protect the work. I am not sure what the covering is, it may be leather. All in all a nice product that may need some modification to its male end fit for female bench slot. Perhaps a shim and cutting down sides or a glued on shoe to build height. I gave it 4 stars due to the quality issues but if these were to be corrected it would get 6 stars from me for usefulness. I use it to hold while I saw. It works very well. I would have made some additional cutouts if the wood was a bit harder. This wood is so soft i dare not but, the softness protects my pieces as well so....

Okay, I'm giving this 5 stars because it's very well made and exactly as described. That said, if you're thrilled by the idea of not having to hold the metal in place while sawing, I'll tell you now--it ain't gonna be that easy. Yeah, the jaws of the bench pin do hold metal in place very well (the hinge is tight and they're lined with leather) but the problem is, when hand sawing anything other than a straight line, you will have to turn the metal. Turning the blade while the metal is still ALWAYS results in a broken blade for me. It's handy and I like it, but a perfect fix for all your woes this isn't.

Any one can spit and chew over it holds to tight, or it doesn't come with hardware (this was fairly obvious by the description), or whatever. This holds metal well to be sawn. Period. It is a tight fit. And, I like it a lot. It is easy to adjust to move the metal around, and yes, it holds tightly. However, I like this far more than having my sheet metal slipping around during a tough cut. Buy it! It works great.
