I took these with me to the climbing gym and asked friends who already owned belay glasses to offer their opinion on the quality of these. Most were shocked at the affordable price, as several people had experience with glasses of this type that exceeded the $80 point. Everyone thought they were good glasses. One friend said that he like them, because he could wear them in front of his existing glasses. Another friend appreciated the sturdiness of the frames and couldn't believe how affordable they were.I myself have not used glasses like this, but have wondered about them and was willing to give them a try through the vine program. If you are new to these, this is what I noticed. You can see your climber very clearly, but you will not want to move your head much, as it might make you a bit queasy. As I was watching my belayer and feeling very aware that I was watching a projection of my climber, it occurred to me that I had no sense of the location of my climber in relation to my own body and if we were outdoors, what would I do about rockfall? I asked a friend who uses them regularly and he said that you do get used to them and he's not had a problem getting out of the way of falling rocks. The lenses are small enough that you can just look up and over the frame and then you are back in your reality where the size and location of something make sense in relation to where you are. It's very odd and interesting to me, but I've also been through months and month of visual therapy, spent a year in -16 diopter glasses after 35 years in contact lenses and had to cope with the world being suddenly small and far away, and no sooner had I sort of gotten used to that, I was able to have cataract surgery and jump back to a living in a larger world again, with the correction happening IN my eyes instead of out in front of them, on my nose. So I might be hyper-sensitive/aware to/of the queasies that happen when your brain has expectations for visual processing that your eyes/lenses/other devices can't meet. No one else complained that they felt weird wearing them, so you'll have to see for yourself, so to speak. :) But you'll be able to see your climber without wrenching your neck. I wouldn't bother with them in the gym, but they'll be nice outside on belay sessions...as long as I don't wobble my head around and stay nice and still. I imagine these to be ideal for a nice tree lean....

These glasses are both a fun party trick as well as a useful tool for reducing eye/neck fatigue performing overhead work. The prisms are crystal clear in terms of optical quality and there is an included case and safety strap. The coverage of your eyes is poor, so do not attempt to use these as safety glasses. It’s odd that they left in the branding for use as in bed book readers. I imagine you could unscrew and flip the arms for use for reclined reading.

These are great for saving your neck and also make it so you can easily switch between watching your climber and the checking the rope when lead belaying quickly. There is definitely a learning curve with these in that it just feels weird at first but in a couple of minutes it becomes natural. The prism to watch the climber is fairly narrow which allows you to watch what is going around you and the climber at the same time which is disorienting at first but very useful.

These balay glasses are great for climbers. I was a little confused when I got the box. The box said they they were glasses for looking down, not for looking up at a climber. However, I did receive balay glasses. They are great if you want to reduce kinking your neck and looking up with your entire head when balaying, you just use your eyes and keep your head straight forward. These glasses also come with a good case that has a clip so you can hook them onto your climbing harness or chalk bag

Quality belay glasses. The image is quite clear, and I liked that the legs are covered in a somewhat pliable rubber, which makes them comfortable to wear. They come in a handy case. Had no issues using them at the climbing gym.
