I have a whole-house lightning/surge suppressor on my main electrical panel which protects against power spikes and surges for the entire house. That is a very important part of protection of your appliances and electronic equipment, however, that is not what this voltage and surge protector by BXST is. This is very different and so much more! On the other hand, this unit does not replace the whole house surge suppressor either. Both of these devices are needed for comprehensive protection of your most sensitive and expensive equipment.One thing that most people do not understand is just how dangerous and damaging power brown-outs can be (which surge SUPPRESSORS do not protect against. This unit helps to eliminate that danger. A brownout is a situation where the input voltage drops below a certain amount, potentially causing irreparable damage to your equipment by lowering input voltage which causes current flow to increase possibly beyond the capacities of your equipment's built-in protection circuits. Current is inversely proportional to voltage. This unit is designed to open up the circuit in the event the input voltage is either above or below preset limits. That is the opposite of what a voltage spike suppressor does, which is to "clamp down" the spike, basically shunting the spike to ground potential thus protecting your equipment from the spike. Typically, if the surge is bad enough, then the suppressor is destroyed in the process.Rather than clamping down the circuit, this unit opens up the circuit. This unit will not protect against lightning surges which can arc across open contacts, rendering this unit useless in that case. That is why both protections (this unit, AND surge suppressors) are needed. They complement each other. Where this unit shines, in my opinion, is in brown-out situations and minimal over voltage situations (not necessarily spikes).These are only able to handle up to 20 amps and are only useful on a per device basis or even a per circuit basis but certainly not as whole house protection. With that in mind, I have purchased multiple BSXT units (both in 120V and 220V versions to place on the inputs of my 3 mini-split A/C units (220 volt version) and my mega-expensive flat screen TVs and refrigerators (120 volt version). Los protectores de voltaje llegaron en buenas condiciones, pero no cumplieron con el objetivo que era proteger mis aires acondicionados ya que no levantaban suficiente voltaje para proteger mis aparatos. Por eso hice la devolución.

This voltage protector works well for 240V appliances. My only complaint is that the delay cannot be set less than 3 minutes. Actually it's more like 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Being that it has analog adjustments, all settings are ballpark values. I really wish it could go down to around a minute. The delay does initiate when a brownout or overvoltage event occurs, as well as when the power comes back on (or when you turn it on with the switch). Internally, the negative and ground connections are bridged with solder traces, but they seem sufficiently beefy. The relay is rated 20A at 240V and only cuts the hot connection. That's assuming, of course, that you wired it up according to the labeling...which is in Spanish for some reason? At $30 the price is reasonable. Something like this is a must-have for your fridge or AC if your utility often has brownouts.
