There is no mute button, only volume control; the original A40 cable has a mute button.That being said, quality is pretty on par with the original audio cable. You do lose some quality at higher frequencies, the sound is a bit compressed. For gaming, since you won't really reach those high frequencies, this is definitely comparable to the original cable.I'm knocking a star off for claiming there's a mute button when there isn't.

This TALTAW replacement ASTRO A40 cable worked perfectly for my husband’s Astro A40s. It is the exact replacement cable that connects the A40 headset to Astro Mixamp ProTR Gen 3.He could not tell the difference between this aftermarket replacement cable and the original cable that came with the headset. If you are in the market to replace your Astro A40 headset cable, I would definitely recommend this one. It worked straight out of the box.
