This 600W element fits snug in a steel tube that is in the center of a 4-5 gallon oil reservoir, and in 10-15 minutes the oil and the reservoir becomes hot enough that one can touch it only momentarily. (175F)Surprisingly efficient, and quiet well suited for my experiment.

The overall quality looks very good. The fiberglass insulated wire stripped more easily than other similar high temperature wire I've used. I measured the cold resistance of eight cartridge heaters and they were all between 37.5 and 38.1 ohms. The only issue so far is the red insulation sleeves at the rear of the cartridge heater. Because this is a high temperature application, this isn't heat shrink tubing. It looks like silicone tubing, and they're a fairly loose fit over the crimped connections where the wires attach to the heating element. (see image) Make certain that the insulation cannot slide down in your application. It would be very bad to short 120 VAC at the heater, or possibly energize the metal chassis of a piece of equipment with a faulty ground connection. Some red silicone high temperature sealant might be able to secure the insulation sleeves. I used a couple of small wire ties to secure the sleeves in my application, as the wires are exposed to free circulating air and won't be very hot.
