Where have these minis been all of my (DMing) life? For the price, these are some of the best minis I have used. They are made of thick and durable plastic but still have a little bend to them, much better than something like the Reaper Bones minis that warp like no other. They won't break if dropped or easily fall over when you bump the table. There are also so many monsters in a box this box that gives any DM a lot of flexibility with encounters. Plus a HUGE dragon as the cherry on top.The design of these monsters goes for a larger detail approach which I find I like much more for table tops so you can see them better when on the table and make out the details better from further away. This also makes painting them easy. Speaking of painting, I would recommend washing these with some warm soapy water when you first get them to remove any of the release oils that coat them from the moldings. It wasn't too bad but there were definitely a few spots I noticed, but after a bath, they were cleaned up and ready to paint. If you are just getting started as a DM or looking to expand your collection further, these are a great addition, especially for the price.

The Classic Encounters - Essential Set from Wildspire offers tabletop gamers a diverse and detailed assortment of miniatures at an impressive value. Featuring 65 miniatures in 28mm scale, this set is a great pickup for both novice and experienced game masters.Note: Wildspire recently acquired the intellectual property for these figures from Blacklist Games. Any similarities between these figures and those previously available from Blacklist Games are a result of this acquisition.Contents: The box has sheets of bubble wrap on the top and bottom, and groups of figures are separated into smaller bags surrounding the dragon which is unwrapped. This may not hold up for rough handling, but thankfully my figures arrived undamaged. There is also a small sheet identifying the included miniatures. While most of the figures are molded in gray plastic, the elemental-themed enemies and a few ghostly undead are cast in either semitransparent orange or blue plastic. There are four copies of most of the small and medium-sized enemies, but only single copies of the large and huge-sized creatures. The overall detail is relatively good for plastic miniatures of this scale. There are some imperfections such as visible mold lines and injection spots. The base on the huge dragon is warped, and a few of the weapons are slightly bent. Fortunately, these issues can often be remedied by using hot water to soften the plastic, reshaping the figure, and holding it in place while it cools.Value: Getting 65 miniatures for under $40, including large and huge-sized models, is a fantastic deal. Many of these creatures are staple foes in tabletop campaigns, making this a solid investment for newer game masters looking to begin their miniature collection. Experienced game masters will also find this set useful for expanding their selection of miniatures.Final Thoughts: Although there are some minor defects and questionable protection for shipping, the variety, detail and affordability make this set a winner. I’m looking forward to painting these figures and using them in my future games.

There is a lot to unpack here. The value is good, the quality is what I have come to expect to from Wildspire (well detailed durable plastic minis at a great value). These are from the recently acquired Blacklist Games fantasy series 1, and from what I understand they are using the original molds. So I can't be sure if they're using the same plastic mix, but they're using the same molds. The scale is a little small, but some previous Wildspire (monsters of so'lan) the scale was all over the place. So i think these would go fine with previous wildspire, wizkids nolzurs, archon studios woodhaven npcs. a bit small for reaper/hazbro/cmon.This is about 1/3-1/2 of blacklist's fantasy series 1 and you get 4 of each mob monster (and 3 player characters). I hope they release a set for the player characters and demon lord. Between the 2 smaller encounters sets or 1 full encounters set, there are still 45 or so sculpts that should come as 1 each (instead of 4 each). mostly player characters, a vampire, necromancer, shambling mound, and demon.

This is Wildspire's foundational set of miniatures -- 65 for 40 bucks. The goal is to simply give you everything a DM needs to start out. Does it cover what the basics? Let's find out!The miniatures are made from a mix of hard PVC and ABS plastic, unpainted, and unprimed. There is one huge miniature, a generic dragon that can work for most Dungeons & Dragons-style chromatics, depending on how you paint it. There are several Large minis: a water elemental (blue transparent) fire elemental (red transparent), ogre, dire bera, and troll. The troll lacks the trademark D&D troll nose but that's probably on purpose.Of the Mediums, you get two blue transparent figs, two of each: a banshee and ghost. There's also a red transparent magma ooze (which isn't a thing in D&D). There are four each of five Small miniatures: giant rat, kobold, giant spider, goblin, and giant fire beetle. Curiously, there are no Small giant spiders (giant Spiders are large, wolf spiders are Medium). The rest are the bulk of the set and what most DMs likely want the set for, four of each: gnolls, troglodytes, orcs, skeletons, "constructs," gargoyles, dragonkin (dragonborn) shamans, demonkin (tiefling) mad sorcerers, corrupted half-elf, and zombies. Of those, the gnolls, troglodytes, orcs, skeletons, gargoyles, and zombies will round out a DM's arsenal nicely. The others (dragonkin, demonkin, half-elf) are more likely PCs or NPC villains. The constructs are an odd case since there isn't many Medium-sized golems made of metal/stone in the core rules, but once you branch out to other books they likely have more utility.Add this all up and it's a decent combination of miniatures for DMs who are just getting started. As usual, there are some odd choices (I'm looking at you, giant spider, magma ooze, and "constructs." But there are more useful critters than oddities, and that makes this set a good buy for most campaigns.

I was pleasantly surprised at the level of detail these figures display; I got them as a cheap starter set for my daughter, and my expectations were honestly pretty low, but they're as detailed as any nice pewter figurines you might buy, just lighter and less expensive."10/10" -direct quote from daughter
