What ice cream lover out there hasn't pulled a tub straight from the deep freeze, then had to use power tools to carve themselves a bowl? Well, with this scoop, that's a thing of the past! I was impressed with the weight, feel and construction of this unit as soon as I picked it up. However, as soon as I picked it up out of the box, it turned on and I was worried that it might overheat. However, a frantic read of the instructions told me that this is normal. As soon as you wrap your hand around the scoop handle (specifically the two rectangular zones on the top/bottom of the handle), it turns on and stays on for 40 seconds. This allows you to take it out of the drawer and put it on the counter before you get the ice cream out. The scoop pre-heats as it waits for you, so that it's at optimal temperature for the first scoop. It's a good concept, but I wish there were an on/off switch too, that way it wouldn't come on accidentally while being handled at other times. However, once you know the mechanism, it's easy enough to avoid triggering it; I simply pick it up by the scoop end, or keep my fingers outside of the two zones to avoid it turning on and wasting batteries unnecessarily. The end of the handle displays the temperature of the scoop, so you know if you're ready to serve, and the battery level; both are quite handy visual cues.My ice cream was a brand new, rock hard tub of Kawartha Dairy black raspberry thunder and the scoop carved it out like, well... a hot scoop through ice cream! I served up two dishes of 3 scoops each and there was a slight difference in effort between the first and last scoops, the last needing SLIGHTLY more effort than the first. However, I didn't have to work at all for any of them, so it's very effective. If I was serving to more people I would take a few seconds between servings to allow the scoop temperature to come back up a bit. It was hands down faster, easier, and far less messy than my usual method of dipping the scoop in hot water in a glass. The only two things I think that would make this better are a physical on/off switch to prevent accidental activation, and a silicone plug over the USB C port to prevent water and grime getting into it accidentally. Those are relatively minor points, however, and overall I'm quite thrilled with this scoop. I now know what I'm getting all the ice cream lovers on my Christmas list!

This is a very unique idea for an ice cream scoop! We have tried as a family, a number of different scoops over the years, and we definitely have some favorites. But one thing that is in common with all of them, is that it’s very difficult to scoop hard ice cream with them. Enter the FrostJoy heated ice cream scoop! It is touch activated, and begins to heat up in advance so that you have time to get your ice cream from the freezer. It has a temperature display on the end of the scoop. It also automatically shuts off after it has not been used for a period of time. The instructions that are included in the ice cream scoop are very detailed and helpful.It slips smoothly into ice cream straight out of the freezer with a little bit of effort. The ice cream easily plops off the scoop with no scraping.Here’s some negative things I’ve noticed:The scoop will decrease in temperature once it has been in the ice cream. I find having a cup of warm water to dip the scoop in, will restore it to temperature. But, doesn’t that sort of defeat the purpose of it heating on its own?It doesn’t maintain a steady temperature.The temperature numbers are on the end of scoop, but positioning in such a way that they are upside down and difficult to read when in use.The scoop was charged overnight and only reaches 99%

I like this little device. It doesn’t heat up so much that’s it’s melting ice cream and it cools down automatically after so long. It has the same effect as running the spoon under hot water but you get to avoid the water and sticky mess. It’s unique in that there is no on or off switch. When you pick it up it starts the first warming cycle.Smart design. Battery lasts forever and charges decently quick.At 39.99 I have a hard time justifying it. It’s great and works well. Excellent quality, well made, strong, nice color, comfortable to hold. But 40 bucks seems high. I think you’d have to be someone who either has ice cream several times a week or has a large family who enjoys ice cream often for it to be worth that price tag.The product itself is excellent.

This scoop is dimensionally identical to our kitchen aid scoop, the plastic looks like poly propylene or nylon, which is durable but doesn’t look as expensive. Very cool temperature display, and it really works! Heats up quickly, which is great, because it cools off very quickly, of course. Strange interface where you hold the handle and it turns on… so if you handle it you can turn it on by mistake, and there’s no way to turn it off (it shuts off after 40s of non-use. Would have preferred an on/off switch, but I guess the way they’ve done it means much better moisture protection and simplicity.

I can’t believe I never thought about getting a heated ice cream scoop before! This product has completely changed my ice cream experience. My biggest frustration used to be trying to scoop rock-hard ice cream, but now it’s a breeze. The heated feature makes it so much easier to scoop even the toughest frozen desserts without straining or waiting for the ice cream to soften.Honestly, my only complaint is that I might end up eating more ice cream because it’s so much easier to scoop now! But in all seriousness, this is a high-quality product, and I can already tell it will last. The LED display is a nice touch, and it’s waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about it getting damaged when cleaning. If you love ice cream as much as I do, this is definitely a must-have in the kitchen.
