This is a great sturdy rack. Fits easily into our car hitch and holds a lot of weight. BUT you must read the assembly instructions carefully as the main frame only goes together 1 way for all the pieces to fall into place. There is a weld lip on one side of the main frame and if you put it together with the lip facing up the othere pieces won't fit. Learned the hard way but once I figured it out it was breeze!

We attached it to our Chevy Sonic, carries quite some weight (we had firewood and full coolers for camping on there) and is durable. We had ours for quite some time and see it lasting a long time

A couple of good features are the produce has an adapter if you are using a 2” opening, it also has a threaded hole for the pin so the unit can be tightened down so there is very little movement and or it’s a lot more solid in the hitch opening. The only issue is the assembly, the directions advise to assemble the sides or ends first; this makes assembling the center section very difficult as none of the holes line-up even with the bolts left loose, I thought I would have to drill out the holes. But assembling the center section first then the sides allowed the holes to line up properly

I've been very happy with this cargo carrier. It's Stout and assembly was easy.I DO RECOMMEND this Curt Cargo Carrier.I roadtrip all over the country, to Mountain Bike and Camp, that's my hobby. I wanted something to haul extra cargo and even a generator when I'm really going deep. This works great and when not in use, you can, if need be disassembled it and store in the vehicle. I've driven about 2000, mostly highway miles loaded with a Honda 3500 Generator and a Chainsaw, and it performed flawlessly. I bottomed it out, driving slowly, several times in the woods and expected it to be damaged, but it wasn't. Initial assembly was pretty easy, even with the so-so instructions. There are 2 types of bolts and each bolt type only fits the hole it's meant for. The center shank, which if the main support for the whole carrier does go a certain way, just look it over and you'll see. I didn't know this and so I didn't check, which meant about 2/3 of the way through, I found out and had to pull if apart and start over, which took all of 10 minutes. I used an electric impact driver, but a regular drill or even hand tools would have worked fine. Don't cinch any bolt down until it's all together, that way you have some play to get every thing in place. Once it all loosely assembled you can go around and tighten it up. I hope this review helps.

I ordered this to go behind my Mercury Mountaineer (like a Ford Explorer). Sometimes we take trips and need extra room if we are taking coolers, such as a driving to a beach vacation rental for a week. I selected this one because it was one of the few that fit my stock 1.25 inch receiver. I did not want to mess around with an adapter/converter because some of those are pricey, and I figured one more piece may create a little wiggle, but I could be wrong.Anyway, it arrived rather quickly which was good because I needed it for a cub scout campout. However, the campout was cancelled due to rain, so I never got to road test this.Assembly was very easy as far as figuring out how to put it together. I did have loosen some bolts and use some force to get everything lined up. I probably spent 45-50 minutes putting this together when in reality should have been able to do it in 30. I was almost going to go to the store and get stainless steel bolts and nuts to replace what came with this because I am a little concerned of them rusting if I go camping and it rains. However, since there were a lot, I decided to just assemble it. I may replace the bolts/nuts later if needed. This unit is 48inches wide. It hold my two coolers plus I have a little bit of extra space for something else. I would think the 60 inch ones would be very huge and heavy as far as installing on your vehicle by yourself. The directions say this is rated for 300 lbs for a 1.25" receiver or 500lbs for the 2". I don't see myself putting nearly that amount, so I don't expect an issue. The frame is quite rugged and there are no blemishes with the powdercoat finish.Even though I did not drive with it, I installed it on my vehicle to see if it would be okay. It was quite solid when I tightened the bolt. I recall there were two holes in the bar that you slide into the vehicle receiver. One is threaded for use with the thread bolt that comes with it. This bolt has a hole that will accept the included cotter pin, but it is two small to fit a small padlock that I have on a similar bolt that came with my bike rack. I may just use the bolt from my bike rack, or I may try to enlarge this hole.If you don't use the threaded bolt, there is a secondary hole that you use with a tubular bar made for securing hitch things. I think they sell these at Wallyworld and they have a locking mechanism on the end, but I don't feel the need to spend and extra 20 or 30 bucks when my bolts work fine.Overall, very happy with the purchase. I will update the review if anything changes after road test.
