I needed a power outlet to connect my dash cam to 24/7 power in order to take advantage of the parking setting.For my purposes, I upgraded the wires to 10 gauge with new connectors and heat shrink wraps.This unit works perfectly; I found a location high on the passenger wall under the glove box that had the clearance necessary for the hidden bulk of the unit and electrical connections, drilled a hole, threaded the parts into place with wires connected, screwed the fascia in place, installed a fuse (on the Positive line at the battery terminal), and voila: hundreds of ten-second recordings every time a car or person went by 24/7, or activated by emergency lights at the intersection 100 yards away. The outlet looks very good, and it could easily be confused for factory equipment.The original wires and connections were probably sufficient, but my situation called for the heavier gauge. Still, I’m very satisfied with this outlet, and may buy another for my new vehicle to have 24/7 power for those dash cams as well.(NOTE: You need dash cams. Video evidence is indispensable, and for the price of a dash cam, it’s a valuable insurance investment that will pay off with the first incident.)
