In spite of many reviewers stating this is blue glass, it it not. You can see that this is undeniably true in the picture I took of the interior. The bottom is not painted, presumably bc the blue paint peels so easily. This jug is plain, clear glass, covered in a peeling, blue paint on the exterior. I looked thoroughly to be sure! It was very difficult to pick up the depth of the glass with the camera to prove it is on the exterior but I will post the best examples I was able to get because this detail was very important to me. My lid came with peeling on the top and that gave me the best pic. (I will not be using the lid, so that peel doesn't bother me.) The blue painted exterior will serve to shield from light and it completely hides from view the SCOBY pieces floating around inside, scaring guests and giving you a strange reputation to your less "ferment-saavy" friends that you were *hoping* to share your kombucha with until they saw the creatures you used to grow it...I like the capacity of it, while it doesn't take up as much space as I thought it would, which was nice (comparison jug in the picture is my previously used 1.25 gal kombucha vat)I should note here the directions say to wash in COLD water, multiple times, and give a temperature recommendation 86°F/30°C. They repeat NO hot beverages many times, which concerns me since I will be placing this over an indirect heating element (yogurt maker) for the entirety of it's future employment. I theorize that the no heat recommendation has three possibilities.1. VERY hot liquid can shatter glass that isn't heat proof.2. Hot water (washing water) or low heat could cause premature peeling of the fragile blue paint.And/or3. That the plastic spigot is the heat sensitive element that will soften and possibly leak-or even melt.I have replaced the spigot with a stainless steel one (pictured) so the latter doesn't concern me. No. 2. is the only one I am wondering about and I will come back and update in a few months when I'll know if, under constant use of low heat, the paint holds up. If I used a heating belt, I would find a clear glass vat instead of this painted one, bc I am certain it would wear the paint off.

It is beautiful and of excellent quality, it looks perfect in my kitchen.

Love the hammered blue glass and wide mouth cover. The water spout is plastic, but seems fairly sturdy. I purchased a separate stainless steel spout I'm going to install on it. Also I may add a silicone gasket under the lid.

It’s exactly what I needed, though I changed the spigot. Now if I could just find one in green...Update January 2023- the glass is very thin and it was left outside when temps dropped in the 20’s. It cracked. Don’t leave uninsulated in very cold weather. My bad.

Looks good but is not perfect. Spout was broken when it arrived. Glass is not solid blue glass and will come off if scratched.
