This was a present for my nieces and nephew (9-13 y/o). We had a lot of fun doing it. The included agar pack was large enough to make three large (which we split into two or four so we can do all of our (four) mouths, my two dogs mouths and different floor surfaces) and two small petri dishes (my nephew's phone and my toilet bowl, see pictures). I will attempt to find other agar powder as well to make more.We didn't follow the experiments listed, but had fun on our own. The experiments seemed easy enough, but we had a good time trying to think of things to swab and compare.

Es un kit bastante completo, lo único es que las cajas de petri son de plástico, sería mejor que fueran de vidrio

Really straightforward kit. Comes with equipment and a booklet of different experiments. The one about the “3 second rule” was a great way to get my kids to stop eating food off the floor.

The amount of growth medium is pretty small although they offer instructions how to make it from the grocery store. The experiment didnt work too well though and for an impatient 8 year old the lack of immediacy is not good (not that ANYONE could POSSIBLY turn round and make microbes grow faster so this is NOT a fault of the product more just a decision making hint!)All in all though she did enjoy setting it all up.

J'aurais pu enlever une étoile car l'essentiel est en anglais... mais si on est prêt à traduire, les enfants peuvent apprendre à cultiver des microbes et ils peuvent plus facilement comprendre l'activité et ce qu'est un microbe. Je ne peux que recommander car c'est à la fois intelligent et ludique. En revanche, c'est un peu cher pour ce que c'est...

This set is seriously one of the coolest kids science experiment kits I've ever seen. My two girls ages 6 and 8 were very excited to open the box and find this. The set comes with gloves, specimen dishes, flasks and measuring tools, eyedropper, tweezers, a grid card to count your germs/bacteria, a nutrient solution, and a book that has a bunch of experiments in it. Basically almost everything you would need to do the experiments.The first thing we did was put on our gloves which are washable and reusable. I helped my girls make the agar/nutrient solution because it involves cooking it on the stove. This was the only part that was a little confusing only because the book and the package of agar gave different amounts of water to use to make it. I used the direction on the package and it worked great. I poured it into the specimen dishes and we waited a few hours for it to thicken up like jello. The first experiment my girls wanted to try was the 5 second rule. We took a piece of lunchmeat and a piece of cheese and followed the directions of how long they should be on the floor and used a q tip to wipe it into the specimen dishes. I labeled the top with a dry erase marker so we would know which was which. Then the hardest part for the kids came. We put the dishes into a shoebox on top of the fridge and waited a week to see if anything would grow. We checked it after one week and there was no difference. But we checked it today which was day 12 and you can see bacteria or mold growing in one of the dishes. My girls were very excited.We are looking forward to doing all the experiments in the book. The book gives instructions on how to make your own nutrient solution out of gelatin, bouillon cubes, and other ingredients so you can do the experiments again and again. We can't wait to finish this one up, clean everything out and start over again. We are already planning on swabbing hands to check bacteria on hands, and on objects around the house like the phone or tv remote. It's very exciting and makes my girls want to learn!I did receive a set free to try out in exchange for my honest review, but I also purchased one at full price on Amazon to give as a birthday gift this weekend because we all thought it was so cool and want to share with our friends who like experiments.
