Doesn’t work, bought 2, both have springs so strong, the entire housing bends and can’t pull the cable! Waste of money.

**5 STAR UPDATE** Upon learning of my experience as outlined below this seller quickly offered me a replacement or a full refund. While I don't necessarily recommend the product offered, the seller stands behind their product with a good warranty and ultimately wants me to be satisfied. That is why I have updated my rating to 5 stars. If you're reading this review you're likely dealing with the notorious lift gate handle/latch repair on your Toyota. You've either asked a dealer what they'd charged and nearly passed out or you're wondering why some handles are $80 and some are $12.My experience has been that this handle will work for a while and then it simply doesn't. My latch didn't break, it just lost it's spring tension that's needed to pull the cable connected to latch mechanism. After about a month of use I found myself squeezing harder and harder to open the lift gate until finally, regardless of how hard I squeezed, it couldn't trigger the latch mechanism.I've since purchased a genuine part, and yes it is significantly more expensive however, the functionality is key here, not the fit and finish. The genuine part is smoother, requires less force and is worth the extra cost - especially if you're replacing your first handle.

To all of the complainers out there who do nothing but write negative reviews - shape up your act. You all say that the latches are garbage and have to be modified and cut in order to fit. Bullshit. Mine went right in (it's only two studs for crying out loud). Taking apart the liftgate and reattaching the cable takes a bit of time and skill but these are cars people. If you have the technical level of a bowling ball then stick to bowling and don't try to fix your own car. As far as being made of sub par materials, I matched up the new one to the old one from Toyota and really could not tell the difference. You want to make your latch last longer. 2 tips. 1) Oil all of your latches and hinges more than once every ten years and 2) Use a little finesse: put your thumb on the Toyota emblem before you pull the rear latch and you will have all the leverage you need. You could tear the latch and the bezel plate out but WHY. End of review.
