First you'll need to get grease and sewing oil to finish assembly. My advance foot arm was bent so had to straighten it.You'll want to modify thread spool mounting. You'll want to remove foot and file/smooth the sharp edges so you won't mark up leather. After a few mods it is a nice manual machine.Remember to move walking foot to change sewing direction. (needle doesn't go backwards, use foot)

I picked this one up for $84. I like restoring machines so I figured I would have to do some work to make this one top notch. I'm glad I bought it. I did put a couple of hours into making it just what I wanted. The bobbin carrier (right name? The one with the gear that carries the bobbin shuttle?) and shuttle bay was surprisingly filthy. It was coated in oil, but under that was a black gunk that wasn't rust, but it wasn't just dirt either. It was like a rough coating of a very low grade metal. It sanded off with not a lot of effort and 800 grit sandpaper. Some guys say they used a grinding wheel, but I didn't want to remove any actual metal so I sanded. I also polished the pitman arm that goes back and forth and drives the bobbin carrier. It was nice and straight but a bit rough. The 800 sandpaper polished that up in about 15 minutes. I did all four sides. The first place the thread passed through the machine is through the needle driver arm. It does not go vertically as the picture shows, it goes horizontally. I took a drill and made the hole more rounded on both sides to protect the thread. That's working fine. I put nylon washers on both the needle driver arm and the walking food arm. Not sure it was needed, but I did it anyway. The workmanship on the rest of the unit is very good. The castings are good and everything works smoothly. The machine came all adjusted to sew. Don't loosen the two bolts on the pitman arm, the clamp on the top of your needle driver or the two cams and you will not lose any of the timing settings. So you can take everything else apart to clean and polish and you won't lose the proper settings. The packaging was really good. No loose parts, no broken Styrofoam, no missing parts. They do give you the little wire for feeding thread through the needle driver bar. Would I buy again? At $84? For sure. That's a wonderful deal. However, know that you will need to put a couple of hours into cleaning up and polishing the bobbin carrier and well, and the pitman arm. Watch lots of videos. The thread tension adjustment dials cannot be tuned finely enough to stitch and keep from breaking thread. The bobbin likewise breaks thread or makes loose stitches. Many parts of the machine itself are sharp, and will pinch and cut, and mark leather. The instructions are written using English words but are definitely not written by a native speaker and are essentially useless. There are no directions to thread the machine, the manufacturer name listed doesn't appear to exist so there is no customer service. I really wanted this machine to work and I did everything I could to make it work.
