I recently order this to build a OPNsense router using a Optiplex 3060 micro. It worked out the box with some Bios adjustments. You will need to disable the bluetooth option in the Wireless settings of the Dell BIOS. After that, it should work with no issue. I started the ETH interface in Proxmox and assigned it an IP, and was able to get a stable connection with it. No issues so far, works as promised. Would buy again if I ever needed a tiny M2 nic.

This is a rather long review so that it may help someone with a Dell Wyse 5070 that is planning to run an OPNsense firewall and would like to know about some of the M.2 A+E Key network adapters offered by Amazon.I replaced my ancient Smoothwall based mini-itx firewall boxes (primary and backup) with USFF Dell 5070's running OPNsense. One 5070 is the slim version, the other is the extended version with a pcie riser. I bought the "MECCANIXITY M.2 A+E Gigabit Network Card" here on Amazon for the slim 5070. Plugged it in the WiFi M2 slot and OPNsense recognized it during install. I was up and running a bare bones firewall in 20 minutes. I fully configured it the next day with a couple of VLANs, Unbound ad/malware blocklists and GeoIP blocklists (Russia, China, North Korea, Iran and a few others) and several firewall rules. The 5070 Extended didn't work with 3 different Intel quad port NICS plus a SATA card. Didn't even show up in BIOS. Bummer. So I ordered the "10Gtek M.2 A+E Key 2.5G Gigabit Ethernet Network Card" from Amazon to plug into the WiFi port like the slim model. After 8 days without a change in status from "Ordered" to "Shipped" I contacted Amazon support and cancelled it. The Amazon rep said it was out of stock. Well how nice that I was never informed so I could waste 8 days. Based on some Reddit and OPNsense posts, I ordered the adapter I'm now reviewing, the "Gigabit Ethernet Server Network Adapter, M.2 A E I210AT Gigabit Server Network Card". Catchy name. Got it in two days. Switched out the long bracket to the short, plugged it in the 5070 Extended's WiFi M2 port and was up and running OPNsense in around 20 minutes. I exported the OPNsense config from the slim model and searched/replaced the LAN/WAN interface names (re0, re1, igb0, etc.) then imported the config file into the 5070 Extended. To my amazement, it imported without any errors and has been running for 3 weeks now. The slim 5070 is now standing by as the cold backup patiently waiting to be called to active duty.

The primary interface board is much wider than the socket. It’s unlikely to fit in most locations where you’d want to use it.
