I liked these lanterns so much I placed a second order. The batteries included with my second order were weak and barely illuminated the lanterns. I added fresh batteries after which all the features worked properly and were bright. In spite of the included batteries being weak they are still an excellent value and I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

My favorite feature is the strong magnets on the bottom so that the lantern can be placed on any metal item or wall (such as a stainless steel refrigerator) for handy use when needed. But the variable light and ease of use are important as well. Excellent for a grid down back up light source, or for temporarily lighting any dark area. Bought a pack of 4 and would buy again. Previously owned 2 lanterns somewhat similar but these are more compact, lighter in weight, and just as bright, so I like them more. The batteries being included and incorporated in the pricing is a nice touch by the vendor.

This is the best lantern for camping I have ever had. It's sturdy, lightweight, compact, and puts out a bright light. You can walk with it holding the handles, or hang it by the handles. Because of its construction, there is no danger of breaking it during transport.It lasts a long time before batteries need replacing. Works with regular or rechargeable batteries.I used coleman liquid fuel lanterns, flourescent bulb lanterns, rechargeable LED lanterns, and this is the best by far.It is also good as an emergency light in case the power goes out (as it does occasionally here in Los Angeles)It's good to have in your car for when you need to search for something in or out of your car in the dark.And since everyone could use an emergency light, they make great gifts!Every so often a truly superior product comes out --a a truly great price --and this is one of those instances..Don't confuse it with cheaper lanterns that emit much less light.lAnd customer service is great also! You can talk with the company representative if need be on the telephone.You won't go wrong with this.'This is a totally unsolicited review. I just received these along with the Amazon AA batteries. Although the lamps come with their own batteries, I felt better using the Amazon brand. I'll keep the batteries that came with the lamps as back ups for that just in case. I'll also keep the rest of the Amazon batteries with me in case of catastrophic failure of the batteries I'm using, or just loosing power through regular use.After applying the batteries, I went into my bathroom, there is no window so there can be no outside interference.I closed the lights and door and stood in total darkness. The room is 8X6 or about. As soon as I pulled the lamp open, I felt as if a bright light was being shined into my eyes.This is an extremely powerful little lamp. I then moved to my bedroom, 12X14 or about. The blinds were drawn so no outside light would penetrate the darkness of the room. Ther only light came from the cable box and that is minimum.I opened the lamp and the entire room was bathed in light. This was not as bright as ther first test, but this room was considerably larger.I hung the lamp from my ceiling fan and lay on my bed. I had my book next to me and opened it. It was possible to read the pages, albeit I'd prefer not having to read under those circumstances, although it is nice to know you can.I'm not sure how long the batteries will last, I've read several hours, which is fine. With four lamps per order, you'll have more than enough light to last several nights.I bought these for a hunting camp I just bought that runs their lights from propane. I'm not a fan of burning gases in my house as I sleep. so this was what I believed to be the best choice until I can get the place rigged with solar power.I have a backpack for each guest that visits. In the pack are several fire starters, matches, whistles, first aid kits as well as food and water. I will now add this and several sets of batteries to each pack and will order two more sets, one for home as we lost power for two days this last winter.As for the batteries, I can't give an honest review as of yet. After I return from my trip to the cabin, I'll review the batteries and several other items I purchased to test in the real outdoors.I have four stars only because there is only one power setting. Regardless of how much you pull the lamp out, the power is the same. It would be nice to have a half power or even a dimming switch.Unless these lamps all fail catastrophically upon more use, I highly recommend them for those incase moments of lost power, camping, hiking or just sitting outside at night.I imagine that rechargeable batteries could work with these as well. I've never had luck with rechargeable batteries, but I'm on my way to check out some reviews now and maybe turn me into a believer.****Update: April 22, 2018****I just returned from a trip to my cabin deep in the woods. There is no electricity and except for a few propane lights downstairs, ther is nothing but black as pitch night once you go up to the bedrooms or step outside to get a cold water from the porch.One problem I found is once you open the lantern you can get blinded by the light, so I learned to palm the unit in my hand until my eyes adjusted.They are so bright that i was able to read my magazine with the light of the lantern that was several feet away. I hung one on the bathroom door so all we had to do was pull it down as we shut the door. It gave the room enough light to use the shower and toilet without fear of missing.Once taken outside at close to midnight, there was a heavy cloud cover, plus mountains on both sides. The closest electric light was well over two miles away. One lantern was enough to light up an area large enough to feel comfortable enough to walk outside.I didn't because I was able to see the outline of a year old bear from about seventy five feet away. Luckily, momma wasn't around and we both went in separate directions.I will most definitely buy at least two more sets of these lights, one more for the cabin and one for the house for those times we lose power. Although not often, it's unnerving to sit with burning candles that can cause a fire if you are not diligent in tending to them.The bathroom lantern did show some signs of wear by the end of the weekend and slipped down enough to turn the unit on. It's annoying, but not enough to take a star away from the review.I'll just put some double sided tape on the unit and secure it that way while not in use.These lanterns plus the Amazon batteries I used are incredible and I recomend purchasing them if you are going to an area without power and for the just in cases at home.

I bought a 4 pk of these along with a 2 pk of GearLights that arrived in the same box. I tested them and they look to be the exact same light with the exception of the base of the GearLights having magnets and a ring. They are pretty much the same price and look identical in every way. They are bright and are fairly lightweight and compact. The Gold Armor came with batteries. One of these will light up a bathroom or bedroom with ease and is bright enough to use for reading. The amount of light can be adjusted by just not raising the upper section and exposing less of the LEDS. All the LEDs are still on, so power consumption is the same, but the light can be shielded to get less light if desired. For around $5 a light, these are an outstanding deal. I have a lot of power outtages where I live and in the past I have made my own LED lights and ran them off of rechargable batteries that are used in emergency exit signs. The cost and hassle of that lead me to purchase something already made...and I can say these are a great deal for what you get. I cant even buy the LEDS for what the entire lantern cost.
