Audio Quality:Recordings sound very clear when using the recorder close-up—perfect for interviews, personal notes, or small meetings. However, its performance drops noticeably in larger environments like conference rooms or classrooms, where audio tends to sound distant or faint.Design & Build:The recorder feels very sturdy and is well-built, which gives me confidence in its durability. That said, it’s a bit on the larger side at 4.75” x 1.63” (12.10cm x 4.13cm), so not as pocket friendly as some might hope. The LCD screen is bright and colorful but navigating menus can feel a bit clunky at times, taking some time to get used to.Features:I appreciate that it uses the common USB-C for charging—much more convenient than outdated ports. File transfer is simple via USB, and the WAV files are named using a detailed and easy-to-understand date/time format (yyyymmddhhmmss.wav). This file naming formant is incredibly useful for organization. It also comes with a helpful quick start guide that includes QR codes for 12 languages—a thoughtful touch.Voice Activation:This feature was a bit of a letdown. It’s not as responsive or accurate as I expected. Again, works well when the conversation is very close to the mics, and less so when the conversation is at a distance.Packaging & Extras:The packaging itself is solid, providing nice protection. This was tested as my recorder arrived with the packaging damage. Fortunately, the recorder still worked just fine. A protective case would have been a great addition, as I always like the added protection for traveling. On the plus side, it comes with an impressive 3-year warranty, which adds peace of mind.Final Thoughts:If you’re primarily using this recorder for close-range situations and want a well-built device with reliable file management and USB-C convenience, the FOCASE digital voice recorder is a solid choice. Just be aware of its limitations with distant recordings and slightly awkward navigation experience.

Simple basic easy to use and operate recorder with very sensitive microphones. This FOCASE REC is a good size. This recorder does not even pretend to be discreet or to hide to spy or record undetected. It is about the size of a candy bar, and I mean the larger choco bars from 20 years ago. Its size means it is very easy to handle and not so small to be easily lost or forgotten. Perfect for shirt pocket as the microphones are at the right position to pick up everything. Just a few intuitive easy to use buttons to start, stop, record and play. A quick push of the reording switch starts immediate recording. Easy. Fast. Ready to record.Everything is clear, easy to use, functional and including the colorful easy to read, informative screen. Good battery life charged via USB-C. This recorder with its large dual microphones picks up everything in the room clearly. The voice activation function works well and there are many hours of recording capacity. With this power and capacity it can record for days without need for recharge or worring about space to record. This FOCASE REC will do the job with a push of a button and do it well. This FOCASE REC charges fast and transfers files quickly via USB-C. It is a totally functional unit without need for dongles or accessories. Files can be reviewed via standard 3.5mm headphone or through computer and even by the internal speaker too. The speaker is a rare bonus on modern portable voice recorders. This is a good unit with good microphones that provide clear recording of voice in room or larger areas. This machine records in clear good quality files no matter what the resolution and detects and records voices close and far way too. Great sensitivity. I am very happy with the voice recording capabilities. I choose a recording bit-rate in the middle to balance quality and capacity, but with this machine, hours can be recorded as the highest resolution without worry. Good battery and 64Gigabytes of capacity is enough for days of recording especially when using voice activation. This is a good portable voice/lecture recorder. It really does the job.

This tool is great for daily recording, especially if you can correlate each day with its respective recordings. The issues seem to arise when you need to play back specific recordings. For example, I went to a clubhouse and made three recordings to document the condition of equipment and submit parts requests for manufacturer warranty claims. Once I left, I noticed my audio was too low. It turns out you need to disable the background noise filtration settings to get a loud and clear recording. Once you do that, the audio becomes crisp and well-defined.There was a slight issue with locating recordings for individual machines, as they must tie into the corresponding photos. However, I figured out that I could use the timestamps on the photos to locate the recordings and properly pair the audio clips.I’d love to be able to rename the audio files, but that would require a touch interface or some way to add custom labels, which isn’t feasible at this price point. Perhaps using speech-to-text technology could be a viable solution, allowing users to tag clips with relevant words and events without significantly increasing complexity. These aren’t necessarily problems, but rather personal preferences:1. The ability to rename audio files would be helpful for better organization.2. A touch interface or a simple way to add custom labels could improve usability.3. Speech-to-text functionality could allow users to tag clips with relevant keywords more efficiently.

I was looking for something that I could use to record meetings and lectures for later review. I don't think I'm going to be able to use it for this purpose. The recorder is light, but feels study enough that I wouldn't worry about throwing it into a backpack. The buttons have a nice click to them. The switch also feels comfortable to use. Physically, it's a nice recorder. The user interface takes a minute to get used to, but once you do it's intuitive and easy to use. Mine came with the interface configured in a language I'm not familiar with - but the language option is the first selection in the settings menu in case yours does the same.Unfortunately the sound quality is not great. I think that if you're in a relatively small room with decent acoustics (not a lot of background noise) and are speaking loudly and clearly you can get some decent recordings. However, if you're in a larger room or trying to record something that isn't right next to the unit then the recordings are garbled, harsh, and very difficult to understand. As a test I put on a movie in the room next to me, which was very clearly audible, and the recording was unintelligible.I was able to easily transfer files from the recorder using the included USB cable and a Windows PC. You can also write files to the internal storage and use it like a flash drive, but the write speeds are very slow - 1MB/Second.If you're looking for an inexpensive recorder and plan to record in a well controlled environment, I think this could work. If you're recording conditions are less pristine I would suggest looking elsewhere.

The voice recorder has dual mic pickups for great audio quality. It's a bit on the larger side, and a bit heavier than other voice recorders in it's class, but it makes up for the extra size and weight by producing much higher quality audio recordings. The pickups are fairly sensitive and unidirectional, so can be left laying on a desk to pickup everything clearly in a mid sized office conference room. While this doesn't have a touchscreen display, navigating the menus is fairly simple using the buttons below. After a day of heavy use I still had about half a charge on the battery. Charging the unit is pretty quick (about an hour for half charge). In addition, this device can be used as an external drive so you can store other files as well. It's a great voice recorder for classrooms and other noisy environments, and should last you all day taking notes. Overall its a great value for the money.
