More than size determines how it fits
Not all size 8's are created equal. So it is with ironing board covers. More than just length and width matter when choosing a cover.
So get a Best Fit by looking for the right things: length, width, & Shape!
How to get a best fit for your ironing board cover:
A Good Fit happens when length of ironing board matches the length of the replacement cover. Ideally, get a cover made for your ironing board. When that's not possible, look for a cover whose fit is a little generous. Too long is usually okay. Too short is not!
A Better Fit happens when width matches too. A replacement cover should be at least as wide as your board. More width will give you more wrap around on the underside of the board.
If your board is on the longer and wider end of a cover's fit range, the cover will be tighter, have less wrap-around, and be harder to put on.
A Best Fit happens when length, width, & shape match.
The shape of the nose affects how a cover fits--in width and length! A long narrow nose needs a cover with a long narrow nose. Likewise, a short rounded nose needs a cover with a short rounded nose!
A Best Fit ends with the back end of the board.
The ends of ironing boards are typically rounded, as pictured above, or squared. This is a round-hole, square-peg situation! Find a cover made for a board that matches the shape of your ironing board.
In a pinch, err on the size of extra width to compensate for cut. It will not be a perfect fit, but it can work.
