This phono pre is absolutely amazing, and not just for the price. It handles all my MM/MC carts and allows me to run almost 100 foot balanced cables with no noise. My one request is that they would move the gain switch to the front panel so that I can make all my cart selections without having to pull it out of my cabinet.

I like the preamp and has excellent sound but am somewhat disappointed that it doesn't have the best load settings for my soundsmith and ortofon quintet cartridges. The soundsmith requires at least 470 ohm and the quintet works best for me at under 100 ohm. This only has 1000, 400, and 100 ohm settings. If I had known this at the time of purchase, I may not have bought it. It works fine with my audio technica, hana, and denon moving coil cartridges though.

Best phono Preamp for the money. Initially I had issues the Zen Phono 3 powering up. It would be finicky powering on as well as powering off. I also noticed that the other selector buttons did not function properly either which led me to believe it was not exclusively an issue with the power switch. Anyways, I dealt with the issue by never turning the unit off until one day I had to power off my system and the unit would not power back up.I contacted IFI in regards to the problem and they said the issue is actually due to a faulty power supply. They immediately shipped out the upgraded power supply and the problem was solved. My guess is that the stock power supply was not suppling enough power (voltage/amps) to where the Zen Phono 3 was functioning properly.The Zen Phono 3 gets five stars for its performance and IFI gets five stars for their customer service.

Bought this as my Schiit Mani wasn’t cutting it. The look isn’t my favourite, but I’ve got it hidden anyways. Sounds great, tons of settings to ensure you can use whatever cart you want.
