Works as described. The mixer base is flat and the head is adjustable which gives you enough space to put a heated surface underneath in case you need to add heat to your mixture. The speed is very easy to adjust. The given stirrer rods are slightly bent and really start to vibrate at about 1400 rpm. The optional stirrer rods are better quality and smooth no matter the rpm. The directions weren't all that great, and there are extra pieces that make it confusing but once you figure out that you can ignore those then it's easy to figure out. Overall it works well for my needs and would recommend the product.

It's smaller than I was expecting. the ad says 20L which a little over 5 gallons but then in another place it states 10L. You couldn't get a 5 gallon bucket under it and if you could the stirring paddles are tiny. the good thing is most of that can be modified provided it has enough power to stir the stated 20L or 5 gallons. It was a bit confusing at first as the only instructions I found was the small card pictured. Later I finally came across the more detailed instructions. Might want to put those together. A little small and pricey in my opinion but would serve it purpose.

I have a few magnetic stirrers (heated and non-heated) but they have a tendency to not do well with large volumes or thicker liquids. I needed something able to handle both.This turned out to be quite a nice piece of hardware. The part that holds the mixing paddle shaft is an ordinary tool-less drill chuck. So that makes it REAL nice if I want to use other mixing attachments (or modify the ones I have). Speaking of modifying the mixing paddle shaft, 2 are included, but they're the same length. If you need to mix something higher up, for whatever reason, you're limited by the height of the support shaft of the stand. If you needed to, you could cut a few inches off one of the shafts to allow you to stir higher up. Because it's just a drill chuck, it won't matter. And you could always replace the shafts with new ones.This comes with 3 blades, for obviously smaller volumes as well as larger, which is really nice, and everything is stainless steel. So it should tolerate just about anything including nitrating solutions, though working with large batches of such substances is of questionable safety.Seeing as it's height limited (at least without chopping some off one of the shafts), this can't really be used for heating. Of course, after cutting the shaft short enough you could probably get a short Bunsen burner under it. If you wanted to use a hotplate, you could cut even less off. Just be really careful if you decide to start heating this because the strap is plastic (Velcro) and probably won't tolerate much beyond the boiling point of water.If you decide you want to start using this to heat things, I suggest replacing the ordinary "Velcro" with " HI-AIR ® Hook 66 & Loop 3000" from Velcro brand. They're higher temp Velcros that can withstand temps up to 350f.Setting up and using this was very easy, though I did have a few initial questions (which rod went where) that I eventually figured out when I found the assembly instructions which are separate from the use instructions. I ended up assembling it twice, lol. I'd like to see the assembly and usage instructions combined into a single source. Don't make me keep track of 2 things, lol.I stirred up about 700ml of H2O on my countertop to try it out, and it was wonderfully powerful and quiet, having no problem going as fast as I wanted until the impeller started cavitating (which isn't very useful for stirring). It can pull a vortex all the way to the bottom at will. When you first turn it on, you set the speed by turning the dial, then after a short pause it'll start up and rev up to that set point. From that point on, if you want to adjust the stir speed, just rotate the dial, and after you stop turning it when you have it where you want it, it'll then initialize the change and ramp up or down to that speed. Pushing the button (which is also the dial) while running will shut it down. Of course you can set a timer, too.I have a lot of gear in my chemistry lab, including quite a bit from Joanlab, and this was another welcome addition from them. Their equipment has proven to be very reliable for me (I've put a lot of hours on my magnetic hotplate / stirrer from them) so it's an easy recommend. Just be on the lookout for the assembly instructions which are for some reason separate from the usage instructions. 5 stars.
