This full size tournament play chess set is very nice and worth the price. The faux wood looks great, and if you didn't know it was plastic, you might mistake it for real wood at first glance. The production seams are difficult to see, and are buffed out very well. The weight is a bit on the lighter side, for their size, but the dimensions are perfect for play. The silicon board retains a crease from folding, and even after leaving it out for a couple of hours, was still noticeable. I suspect I'll need to put some heavy books on it for a few days to get it to stay flat, but for now, I will keep it in the very nice zipper case. It is more of aesthetic complaint than a functional problem, and the set plays perfectly even when freshly unfolded. The weight of the pieces are enough to flatten the crease, so the pieces do not tip or lean. I like the feel of the pieces, and while they are not as heavy as my weighted tournament set, they have a nice heft, and are easier to travel with due to the weight savings. All-in-all, a really nice set, that, for under $50 at the time of this review, represents a good value.Five Star High Quality Tournament Chess Set

This is a tough one ?On one hand it’s pretty cool, the other it was not what I expected.Because of the composite photos in the pictures it’s hard to tell the real size.It’s much bigger than shown, which I find appealing but will be confusing when ordered.The pieces look very wood like in the picture, so I assumed wood.Unfortunately they are hallow plastic, nice hallow plastic with a small weighted bottom.The board is a mouse pad.If you need to travel set with a very full size board this would be perfect.I like it, but as I mentioned it was not what I assumed from the pictures.I am sure my children will love playing with it.

A really nice portable chess setThis really is a very nice high quality portable chess set. This particular set is destined for a local assisted care facility.The photos on the Amazon site well represent this product. Here are some salient features:• A Foldable, silicon 20” chess board. This board is surprisingly large and lies reasonably flat when unfolded and should be placed on a large flat surface – setting it up on grass probably not so good. The board is labelled alphabetically along one edge and numerically on the other for recording or communicating moves.• Quality Wood like chess pieces. The chess pieces are very good quality and have a good weight and feel. The set comes with two extra Queens for a pawn upgrade – an unexpected and nice feature.• Portability. The set comes with a color matched bag for the different chess pieces, and a carrying case for the entire set. Everything can be nicely bundled and carried about.• Printed instructions. Instructions are provided in fine print and in seven different languages. A nice try but worthless.OVERALL – a very nice, good quality portable chess set.

One thing to mention is that the pieces are made of plastic. They are colored to look like wood but they are plastic. Due to the wood look, keep in mind that the colors are tan and brown with a matte finish. The brown is on the lighter side but definitely dark enough to tell the two sides apart. The quality is pretty good and they can hold up to rough play.Although this is a large chess set, the pieces feel a little underweighted. Not light or hollow; they feel like solid plastic. But to give perspective, the king is 1.5 oz, the bishop, rook, and knight are all 1 oz, and the pawns are 0.8 oz.There’s an extra queen included for pawn upgrades. It also includes a soft-shell zippered carrycase. There’s no clock, nor is there room for a clock. The silicone playmat is nice because it folds up quite a bit for travel. However, it does not fully smooth out when set for playing and it does have a slight rubber smell to it. You have to get close to notice.
