I'm glad I added this colour to my Kaweco collection. It's gray but changes with the light and has some iridescent hues. Like most Kaweco AL Sport I own, this one wrote flawlessly right out of the box. The weight is perfect for me, and I enjoy using it for long writing sessions. The price was reasonable, and I'm happy with my purchase.

This is the next level Kaweco Sport! The aluminum body to me is classier than the standard plastic and it gives it a little bit more weight, but not too much like the brass version. The finish also feels more refined than the standard plastic finish. And it writes like a Kaweco should.

I have grown extremely fond of and impressed by Kaweco. In my experience, their pens are the most consistent, comfortable, reliable, and have the most cooperative nib + feed I’ve found yet.First and foremost, I highly recommend checking for a local stationary/art shop that will allow you to try fountain pens before purchasing them, since it’s such a subjective process. This anthracite Kaweco AL Sport F is just one of roughly 20 fountain pens I’ve tried in the last couple weeks, and one of a small handful to join my permanent collection, along with an EF white Sport and an EF aluminum Liliput. The nibs on these three are technically near-identical (one EF is gold-plated which is just aesthetic, the liliput’s EF is silver, and this one is F instead of EF), but they don’t *feel* the same to me — I love each one differently as if they have their own personalities. This sounds weird… until you get really into pens, then IYKYK!Comfort: all three Kaweco pens are my most comfortable to hold for short or long periods of time. I have long-and-skinny-fingered girl hands, hypermobile joints, and an unconventional grasp, so I don’t get along with certain pen grips (I love my Lamy Safari too, but the blister on my middle finger does not). The metal feel of the AL sport is cool to the touch and has a good weight to it — it’s not heavy enough to cause fatigue over time or light enough to feel cheap.Appearance: it’s adorable. Maybe it looks weird and chunky from the pics if you’ve never seen a Kaweco Sport in person (it sure did to me) but in real life, it’s just a stylish lil pen. The clip helps a lot with this. It looks like it’s worth as much as you paid, IMO.Ink Supply: I have the proprietary mini converters in both my Sports. It’s by far the tiniest of all the converters/cartridges I have, but they hold more than expected. I’ve been writing with this one for several hours straight today and it’s still more than halfway full.I tend to prefer drier inks in my pens to prevent feathering & bleeding, so I use Lamy’s black ink (Pelikan 4001 is a hit drier but I find it to be very smelly).Nib: I haven’t experienced ANY skipping, dryness/dripping/other feed issues, scratching, etc. with any of the Kaweco pens I’ve tried so far. They’re significantly more consistent in performance and size than others I’ve tried. The fine tip draws a thicker line vs the EF, and the EF is very very fine, on par with a Pilot EF. Despite being a German company, I’ve found Kaweco’s line widths comparable to Japanese pens. This F is seemingly on par with my Pilot Metro F, and my EF competes with my Pilot Elite 95s EF for “finest in the collection.” This is great for me because I have small handwriting and love me some fine lines! This also helps the ink not run out too fast.Feedback: it feels extremely smooth, but not glassy, providing enough resistance & “grab” on the paper to stop you from skating messily all over the page, but not so much that it’s fatiguing (looking at you, Sailor…). The feedback is more pronounced with the plastic models, but all their pens feel ultra-satisfying to write with. These are perfect for taking on-the-go due to their compact size & screw cap, but I write with all three at home too regularly to be ready to toss one in my purse yet. Some people need a bigger pen with a bigger cartridgeBest Paper: I agree with the majority that Rhodia Premium is probably the best paper to write on with fountain pens. It feels very “buttery,” rarely allows much ghosting (showing through the back of a page), and is just super duper nice. However, not everyone is going to have the best paper available to them at all times (which may be a problem for some picky pens).I’m happy to report that Kaweco behaves very well given ANY paper, from a cheap notebook page to a sheet of printer paper to receipts to Rhodia premium, I haven’t seen any serious feathering, catching, tearing, or other noticeable annoyances compared to most of my other fountain pens.Overall, I’d highly recommend the AL Sport. If you’re new to fountain pens or you’re shopping around for your first Kaweco, I’d recommend starting with a regular Sport as they’re less expensive but feel generally the same to write with (just lighter weight). If you want to upgrade from your current Sport or just prefer metal and money is no object to you, this is a good choice.Again, pen preference is totally subjective, so your experience with Kaweco might not be as dreamy as mine has been — or it’ll be even better! Seriously though, try as many fountain pens as you possibly can before picking your favorite(s).Best of luck!

Beautiful colour. Depending on the light it looks grey or light purple/brown.Texture is super smooth to hold and warms in the hand.Nib (F) wrote smoothly from the start. I use Iroshizuku Yama guri which seems to be a good match.I have two of these pens (this one and the carbon fibre in red). Both inked up with different colours and kept in my top pocket.Absolutely love them. They are not cheap but if you love writing with a fountain pen and want something that will fit in your pocket, this is a good choice.

I have not tried using a fountain pen for many years. I think when I tried it before, I was trying to use old pens I found in my grandparents house. This writes so well that I have not picked up any other type of pen since I bought it. I have been using it for work/meeting notes and journaling. Highly recommended.
