Had a spark plug blow out on my vehicle and needed rethreaded. Ordered this kit kit because it was half the price of similar products. One major thing to note is that the tap (the part used to drill in the new threads) is NOT made for your regular wrench sockets. It is a typical tap that one would find in a Tape & Die set and is made for adjustable tap wrenches. Even if you have a tap wrench, the short bit length makes it unlikely that you will be able to reach the spark plugs on a full size vehicle engine. That said, if you have a grinder or a metal file + patience, you can shave off enough to get it to fit into a 1/4inch wrench socket extension, just wrap the bit end in some paper to get it to hold. You will then also need to use vice grips, pliers, or an adjustable wrench to hold the extension since it will be the male side sticking up.If you're considering doing this kind of thing yourself then you probably have also have the tools needed to make it work, and actually tapping in the new threads is a breeze. Coat the tap in some thick grease to catch most of the metal shavings and provide some lubrication, drill in no more than a full turn and a half at a time, backtrack at least half a turn, and repeat until you stop feeling the extra resistance. Once you're done tapping, cycle the engine for a few seconds if you can to blow out the shavings that fell in before installing the new spark plug, or use compressed air if you can't turn the engine. The plug sleaves have no locking mechanism so you may want to use some high strength threadlock. So it takes a bit of extra doing, but not so much that I wish I had bought a more expensive set. If the manufacturer wants to greatly increase the value of this product, they should definitely consider switching from a standard tap to one that can fit on a 1/4 inch socket.

This little GADGET/TOOL saved the life of my engine! All worked as advertised...zero problem in application/execution.Spark plug hole/orifice/cavity (lack of proper term) on my 2007 Subaru Impreza was SEVERELY damaged and in need of THREADS!This tool accomplished the RESCUE JOB...and as advertised, gave my engine back the functionality it lacked.I highly recommend this item for those who...for whatever reason...are struggling to re-construct a destroyed spark-plug hole.***HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TIP:Use grease in the re-threading process. After RE-THREADING the hole...debris WILL inevitably fall inside the engine cavity (cylinder chamber)...which is NOT GOOD!In my case...and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the following...I completely removed the EXHAUST MANIFOLD from the bottom (again...after the re-thread) and turned engine ON just BRIEFLY (few seconds) to expel (shoot out) all that metal material/shavings before it hits the Cat-Converter.It will be LOUD!...may(or may not) give you a TEMPORARY "check-engine" light (which will go away after all installed)...but no harm to engine. Works tons better than attempting compressed air down spark-plug cavity/hole.Works like a charm!! You will thank me.Good luck
