El CL360 es un medidor digital de horquilla de mandíbula abierta de rango automático verdadero de raíz (TRMS) que mide la corriente CA a través de la horquilla, voltaje AC/DC, continuidad y resistencia a través de cables de prueba. I use this to check amp draw when testing water heater elements and heat pumps. The open fork design is much easier to use in tight spaces.

For the money, the Klien CL380 offers great value when compared to the Fluke 325. More rugged than the Fluke and more or less (depending on the type measurement) the same in terms of accuracy. Even when including other meters comparable in price to the Fluke 325 - nothing else seems to come as close to the same Fluke readings as the CL380 does. Both meters include the ability to read 400A of both AC and DC current (very few, if any $100 meters do this and even some Fluke meters in the $300 range don't have the ability!). The CL380 also offers a Non-Contact Voltage Tester that is sensed via proximity to the clamp (NCV is not featured on the Fluke 325). And the range of measurable temperatures is greater than the 325 (-40C to 1000C vs -10C to 400C).Where the two meters diverge is when measuring Frequency. The Klien offers far greater range than the Fluke (10-60KHz vs 5-500Hz). At first that might seem like a win and there are many situations where it is a win, but there is one situation where it is not. The Klien measures Frequency via its test leads(un-filtered) while the Fluke measures via its clamp and is low-pass filtered. This means the Fluke cannot measure high frequencies. This also means that for anyone who might measure VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) motors for the low frequencies that drive that category of motor, the Klien measurement will be confused by the high controller frequencies used to synthesise the lower drive frequencies. Low-Pass Filters aren't complicated so it might be possible to insert or slip low-pass filter(s) onto the Klien leads in this specific case if needed.However, even for VFD motors (and any other Voltage/Amperage measurements), the Klien CL380 will read virtually identical volt/amp clamp measurements as the Fluke 325. I didn't buy this meter to measure VFD's. So the very comparable accuracies and the ability to measure large AC/DC Amperages in a rugged $100 meter (1/3rd the cost of the Fluke 325) is definitely what I was looking for.

First off, this is a Chinese meter sold to Klein, a variation of it appears to be sold as the Extech MA445.I figured that out before I even ordered it but I like this one a little more and it came with a case so I went with this version of it.I just got through testing it on the bench and was very impressed with its overall feel and accuracy, it's been a rough year for meters with me and I decided to treat myself to something that could do DC amps through the clamp.I was very surprised to find something that was held to quality standards by the two companies that they do sell it to at this price and after just a few minutes of playing with it it has earned my trust completely.If you're looking at clamp meters you already know how hard it is to find an affordable clamp meter that does DC through the clamp, this is it right here and it does peak hold (MAX) so it can be used for inrush current.I tested everything on my bench today except for capacitance and temperature, I already have a capacitance meter so it likely will never get used for that and I carry a non-contact thermometer so that feature won't get used either.It beeps a warning after 2 minutes of non-use and turns itself off after 1 more minute.If this is being used by a homeowner it would be wise to extract a battery from it between uses because most tools like this will likely drain a battery over time but I did pop one of the batteries out halfway and look for current draw while it was off and didn't find any.I'm posting a couple of photographs from inside of the book that came with it but it's worth saying that Klein has the information on their website as well.Update: This has been my primary meter for 6 months now. Everything is good but that auto shutdown feature really has it's moments. Can't set the meter up and monitor stuff because the thing shuts itself off so quickly and needs to be cycled through the power switch to turn back on. It makes it very aggravating to do something like a wiggle test. Aside from that one stupid feature this is a fantastic tool and I would hope the manufacturer would consider making a modification to Future versions of it so that as long as it's getting a reading it doesn't decide to shut off!EDIT: Press the SEL button and hold during power up to disable auto shutdown. There's no way to disable it 100%, only for that session.

I am a HVAC Service Tech for a Calgary Heating and Coooling Company....I have a heavy daily load of service calls troubleshooting/fixing residential furnaces, zoning systems and AC's. This multi meter Amp Clamp has performed flawlessly in the last few months since I bought it off Amazon. I use to use my Fluke meter until it shattered from a 6'fall.. I have had no ssues at all with the Klein CL380. Love the white numbers on a black background for dark mechanical rooms.. I have dropped it off the top of furnaces, with no ill effect. It is simply a work horse that can trust to do everything I need from reading Flame Sensor micro Amps to Blower motor Amps to Ohming out Igniters. I use this Amp Clamp 8-10 times daily so I can tell you that its been awesome for the price, very accurate and does everything I need from an HVAC service Tech's point of view.
