The switch itself is really outstanding and I would give it five stars. The instructions are cryptic and completely inadequate. I installed it, and the nightlight would not work initially. Then I moved a wire between terminals, and the nightlight worked, but the outlet would not. I used a tester and found there was no way to connect the switch so that they were both working as they should. Before returning, I looked at the other reviews, and was very glad that I did. While not mentioned in the instructions, there is a fix.As another reviewer has noted, the nightlight will not work when you are using a single switch, or in single pole operation (as opposed to dual switches for three – pole operation), unless you use a jumper, or a single wire connecting two of the switch terminals to each other. The jumper should go between the black or common terminal and the white terminal – if the nightlight is up and the switch is down, then the two top terminals. The other reviewer suggested a jumper between the black or common terminal and the three – pole terminal. That works to an extent, but it cuts power to the nightlight whenever the switch is in the on position, which resets the nightlight operation. In other words, the nightlight will go off and then cycle through five different brightness intervals. If the jumper is connected to the 3P terminal, then when you turn the switch on, the power to the nightlight is cut off, and you have to go through the nightlight’s cycles every time you use the switch. On the other hand, if the jumper is connected to the white terminal, then the night light gets constant power, and will not cycle – other words, it will “remember” your last setting, and you will not have to fool with it unless you wish to change it.It is essential that the incoming or “live“ wire be connected to the black or common terminal for this setup to work properly.

Switch works great... here's how to wire it for single pole:1) Hot to COM (black pole)2A) If you want switch in up position to be 'ON' and night light on the top, connect Neutral to 3WOR2B) If you want switch in up position to be 'ON' and night light on the bottom, connect Neutral to SP3) Ground to Ground (green pole)

We started using Le Grand switches about 15 years ago. We just did a redo and an older house to take out standard duplex outlets and hallway lights. We ordered a bunch of Leviton and Legrand illuminated wall switches in both single pole and three-way and the first photograph is of a Leviton properly installed. The other photograph is of a Legrand. The Legrand is not only a better quality switch by any comparison, But the illumination level can be changed to dim medium or bright. And when the light switch is activated the illumination remains on. These do require NEUTRAL WIRE for the light function to work.Go look up Legrand on Amazon they are available here in a variety of flavors colors and options. And I do not work for the company I'm just sick and tired of people thinking that Leviton is any standard. And if you look at the wiring instructions for a Leviton product they are printed on the inside flap which is gray cardboard and are absolutely unreadable. They didn't even have any incentive to put a piece of paper in there that you could actually read. Legrand not only puts in instructions but they haven't 800 telephone number which we had to use in order to clarify a three-way setup that we were doing with regards to the traveler wires.. ..and guess what?...a real HUMAN BEING answers the phone.......press 1 for switches, and press 2 for tech support...and within 6 seconds (I wear a Rolex)......a HUMAN BEING picks up the phone and speaks ENGLISH!....... YES.... ENGLISH!........ask for Todd...Legrand wins.

Our electrical outlet in out bathroom was wired in series with the switch for the overhead light. It was going to be expensive to change this. We wanted to be able to have a nightlight for safety reasons. This ended up being the perfect solution! The instructions were written for a 3-way, but my husband found a was to get it set up with only needing an additional piece of wire. It works wonderfully and I'm considering adding this to a couple other locations.

I didn't really like the side rocker switch of the other switch night lights... Legrand was the only one that made one with a up down rocker switch... this isn't the cheapest at $20 each... when you can get a 2 pack of another brand for a better price. As other said, the instructions are TRASH lol... If you want to use it as a single pole switch... connect your HOT wire to COM (black). Neutral to neutral (white). SP and 3WAY is your load connector. Depending on which one you connect, it affect the switch position. With the night light at the top, and SP connected, the "ON" position will be the switch down position. If you wanted it to be up position, you should connect it to the 3WAY labeled post. The switch is designed upside down with the letters written a right way up... weird?
