72" x 40" Studio Large Sound Dampening Blanket, Sound Insulated Blanket Sound Absorbing Blanket with Grommets for Soundproofing Noise Reduction Light Blocker Basement Recording StudioThis is a very nice heavy duty sound dampening and blanket with loops and grommets on the end. For the money it’s some of the more effective sound dampening you can get. Great for permanent installation or to create a makeshift vocal booth on location. It feels well made, functions really well and is a great value for the money. I am grateful to have this as part of my acoustic treatment strategy.

I like that this sound blanket has loops on the top and not just grommets. I can hang this on a gobo arm very easily and set up sound blankets on a couple of C-stands.The blanket is not quite as thick, heavy and dense as I would like. I've got moving blankets that are better at absorbing sound - something that even the good ones aren't really that great at since you really need thickness to absorb a full range of frequencies, but that isn't an issue limited to this sound blanket but sound blankets in general.

I was a bit surprised when I opened this, because it seemed like nothing more than a movers blanket. I recall the listing saying this was 8.2 lbs, but when weighed on my scale it registered only 4 lbs. I tried again with me holding the blanket and without and got measurement of 4.2 lbs - which is about half of what the advertised weight is. The loops are a nice feature to make hanging easier and I’m sure it does offer some noise reduction. The fabric is a nicer than an actual movers blanket. However, for the cost and the fact that the weight is not as advertised, I’d stick with a movers blanket from your local hardware store.

I have a small area I wanted to dampen on a shared wall, and this blanket had just about the right size, so thought I'd try it. Here's what I found:- this is the thinnest of sound dampening blankets I have gotten, and by quite a lot. The listing says it is "dense", but it certainly doesn't feel that way between the fingers, so thought I'd try a simple test, using a studio monitor as a single point source of sound, and placing this blanket between myself and the source in an A/B comparison, and comparing that to a much thicker older one I have...which cost less for a larger blanket. This blanket I had to fold over at least twice (creating four layers) to get roughly the same dampening effect as a single layer of the older one I tested. A single layer of this blanket did cause a very slightly noticeable dampening of higher frequencies, but there was no noticeable difference in the mid ranges that tend to be what passes thru doors and walls. There was no noticeable effect on lower frequencies.- it is well constructed, and honestly is probably better constructed than the older ones I own, having much more stitching overall- the hooks and holes make it easy to install and hang- good for window use as is blacks out light if that is a concern in addition to sound, but then so do every other sound blanket I have, and this feels no thicker than the blackout curtains I have, but which look much nicer.- hung on a bare wall, does help reduce bounce within the room, effecting overall reverb of the room, but again other materials design for sound dampening, such as the foam pads, do this job much better. however, they require much more time to install, and cannot be taken down, reinstalled repeatedly. This blanket is much better suited to situations where a room serves multiple purposes and you may not want sound dampening to always be present and visible.Overall...there are situations where this is helpful and beneficial. For myself, this turned out best used not in my originally intended location, but folded over a few times and placed at the bottom of a door that has a large gap, and caused sound to leak out into that hallway. For the shared wall, I had much better effect with foam pads. This is a nice blanket for that door as it is a good size and will stand up to quite a bit of use, but in the end feels expensive for what you get.

We have a decent sized music room in our basement, several instruments including two pianos and, most recently, a drum kit. Yeah, we bought our 7th grader a drum kit after he's been playing percussion for the last two years. As our house is relatively small, and you can hear quite a bit from the basement, we were already setting times/conditions on when he could practice the drums. However, with the curtain, it has really had an effect on us in a positive way. He's not holding back, and all we're hearing is a dull thudding coming from that area of the house. We're able to have regular conversations anywhere else in the house while he's practicing. The only suggestion I have is to be aware of the size of the curtain and make sure you get enough. We'll likely be looking for more of these to see if we can dampen the sound even further.Happy playing/recording/etc.!
