I feel like I end up writing reviews for a lot of items that are for emergency use, but I guess that only means that I am well-prepared for potential emergencies. These are compact, portable, and easy to stash in small places. I can't say how well these specific ones work, but there's not much to go wrong, honestly. These are a good value.

To test one of these, I walked outside at night. The temp was about 40 and there was a stiff wind blowing as the edge of another winter storm was making its way through our area. I had unfolded one of these blankets (much larger than I had thought it would be) before stepping outside, or I think I would have had a somewhat difficult time unfolding it in the wind.With the blanket wrapped around me as much as possible, I could not feel the wind where the material blocked it from my body. The rest of my body (including my feet, with 3 layers of socks on) felt the cutting wind with no problem. the part with the wind blocked felt much warmer than the parts exposed to the wind. I did walk around on the porch a little, but then quickly came back inside.One side of the blanket is gold, the other side is silver. When I tested, I placed the silver side against my body. Whichever side you use, the reflective surface should also help to keep a body warmer by reflecting the body's lost heat back to the body.I did try to rip the test blanket with my hands, but couldn't even make it stretch very far.Each of the 5 blankets in this set are in individual baggies inside the larger re-sealable bag in which the set arrived. I am not going to attempt to put this one back into the individual bag. I know from several decades of experience that it's too frustrating for me and I won't be able to make it work. I will get a larger baggie from the kitchen drawer and seal it back up that way. Each blanket in the bag is super light. These would easily fit into a backpack, purse, or jogging pack without causing noticeable weight.I now have placed one in my purse and the rest out in my car in case of an emergency.

If you like being prepared for emergencies but don't like anything too bulky, or if you are an outdoors person who hikes, camps, hunts, fishes this may be something you'd like to own. For $10 you get 5 gigantic when you unfold them, thin but strong mylar reflective "blankets." When you are wrapped in them they do hold your body heat. I sat outside in 45 degree weather with a breeze and was comfortable but a little concerned my neighbors would think I was a fool trying to signal an alien spaceship. That's what the foil silver and gold surfaces make me think of. They're super shiny but that's to protect you by deflecting from sunburns and other things and to act as an easier way for rescue workers to potentially spot you. I tried to rip one just to see if I could but I couldn't - that's good. They're extremely thin and seem flimsy but quite strong, and I was able to just almost fold one back up to put it back in the individual package but had trapped air in it somehow and didn't want to reduce its effectiveness if ever needed by cutting a hole in it but I was able to get into a quart size zip up clear bag and then put back with all the rest. The fold grid lines make it easier to fold up and act as a guide. I just like these to add to our preparedness go-kits. I'd recommend.They did take a seemingly long time to get here. Ordered on 12/20 and received on 1/13. That was over the Christmas shipping season though so that's probably why it took so long.

They really serve a lot for an emergency in case of rain or cold.And best of all, it doesn't take up any space in my bag

Good quality foil blankets for emergencies. We have emergency bags in case we should be without electricity. These are for that bag.
