Always seemed a little weak compared to other 14" chop saws I've used on steel. If you look at the specs, the horsepower rating on the motor isn't what you'll get from a competitor. And the clamp is hard to use, like other folks have commented. I've had this saw for six or seven years and used it for a half dozen projects. A few weekends ago it ate a set of brushes. One good thing: parts are easy to find online. This morning it made a horrible noise and then spun down, dead, after blowing the breaker. I checked the brushes and found them completely gone. Again. I looked through the brush holes and saw a segment of the armature missing. After pulling the motor apart, I found that one of the iron contact segments at the brush end of the motor had worked out of the assembly and torn into the guts of the motor as it spun down. Sure, I could replace the armature -- and brushes again, and both motor bearings since they're pressed onto the motor shaft -- but that's two-thirds of what I spent on the unit in the first place, and it's still underpowered. And I might need to replace the winding and housing too if the armature fragment did damage to that wiring. At that point repairs would cost about what I paid for it. And it's STILL underpowered. At first I was going to chalk this up to the tool simply wearing out... but then I realized that the 9" angle grinder, the 4" angle grinder, the circular saw, the sawzall, and the 1/2" drill I had out were all 25 or more years old. Heck, the 9" angle grinder is probably 35 years old. There's no excuse for this big, heavy tool to die after an aggragate 12 to 15 hours' use. One star.

For the price I am happy with this saw. The cast iron base is nice because it doesn't walk around at all when running. Just like previous reviews my switch stuck in the on position. The first time it caught me by alarm because it was the second time of turning the saw on and I moved the trigger around and it turned off. After that I got used to it but I'm afraid the switch will fail sooner or later. A couple weeks later dad was using it and I forgot to tell him about the switch. For some reason it tripped the breaker when he first turned it on (unrelated to the saw, but is a 20 amp circuit so I don't know what is going on) so he went into another room to reset the breaker then saw took off running on its own because he didn't realize the switch stuck on. I don't know if anyone from Amazon is reading this but I'd like to get a new switch sent to me before this one fails and I don't want to send the entire saw back because shipping charges, I can't go without it for two weeks, and there's a really good chance the new saw will have the same problem.ThanksChris

I love this machine. I can't believe I wasted so many years with a hacksaw. Only had it a week, but so far it has worked perfectly on unistrut, rebar, steel tube, heavy-wall aluminum tube, and steel plate. I'm totally satisfied with it.

After shopping around, this machine is clearly built better than the rest. Others had cast aluminum or stamped beds, the Milwaukee is cast iron. My first job was cutting 10 foot sections of 3/16"x3" angle iron, the tool held them perfectly aligned and cut them smoothly in about 10 seconds. No wobble or runout. Also have cut some bricks with masonry blade with excellent results. Great tool, not much more $, why buy anything else. Only drawback; a little heavy to lug around for portable use, but that's the price for sturdiness.
