This backpack is great for a day hike or when you’ll be out and about. We’ve used it on day trips in San Francisco and also day hikes.

The hose had or obtained a leak in the first couple uses.

Hydration BackpackThis is a pretty nice backpack for short to medium length hikes.A 3-liter hydration bladder is included. The drinking tube just snaps into the bladder with a sort of quick release mechanism. It makes a good seal and is very convenient. It’s better than my other bladder where the tube screws in, which is very awkward because you have to spin the entire tube around when you screw it in.There’s a small opening at the top of the pack to allow the drinking tube to pass through. It’s quite narrow making it a small struggle to get the bite valve through it. Edit: or slip it through the other end first and it's a lot easier. Duh!Interestingly, unlike my other bladder where the top cap screws in, here the bladder folds over at the top and a plastic tube slides over and locks it in place. It’s nice because there’s no possibility of cross-threading the cap, and also the larger opening makes it easier to clean. The chest strap clip doubles as an emergency whistle. It’s very clever, but the whistle doesn’t work very well. The pack seems to be designed for shorter people. I am 5’11” and the pack is almost too small for me. What I mean is that I have to loosen the shoulder straps all the way in order for the pack to lower far enough down that the hip belt rests on my hips to carry the pack weight. A taller person will probably find the hip belt up around their belly button. There are two water bottle side pockets. These are about 6” deep so bottles are unlikely to fall out accidentally. On the other hand, bottles need to be at least 8” tall so they don’t disappear into the pocket.Other things I like: The pack is light weight and comfortable. I like the clever straps on the back to hold trekking poles and the zippered pouches on the hip belt. A useful light-weight pack cover is included that fits neatly into a special zippered rear pouch.Overall, there are a few minor negatives, but nothing worth taking a star off. If your height is less than about 5’11”, I recommend this pack. Edit: after using this pack for a couple weeks, I'd reduce this to 5'9".Additional comments: The two belt pockets are handy and a useful size. However, since they have a mesh covering they aren't water resistant. I want to keep my point-and-shoot camera and my GPS in these pockets, so I'll have to put them in plastic bags for rain protection. Also, I'm finding that the zippers tend to jam when the zipper flap material (whatever it's called) gets pulled into the zipper. Finally, a lot of packs have so many zippered partitions that it's hard to keep track of where things are stored. In contrast, this one only has three main compartments. I'm using small packing cubes to help keep my stuff organized (not a negative, just a comment).

Great weight distribution, holds plenty of water, doesn’t leak, and holds all my gear.

I really wanted to love this pack but it was quite uncomfortable on a 4 hour hike. Left my back and shoulders very sore.Waist support zippers seem to be upside down, I would think the zippers would be placed at the top - and definitely not enough room to put a phone.I would rather spend the money for something slightly more comfortable and better made.Bladder, however, worked pretty well and good quality.Pack does have a good amount of space which is helpful when you get hot on a hike and want to store your jacket in. Also plenty of room for a lunch and binoculars, etc.
