I was so excited to receive these shoes. I ordered my usual 8.5 Wide size. I could barely get the boots on. They were both too short and too tight. The shoelaces were also too short (since I had to loosen them for extra width). Other hiking boots I've purchased have had ample length shoelaces. This seems like a cheap-o move by a respected brand.I returned these and didn't order a size up because I didn't feel that the "wide" width would accommodate my foot. If you have narrow or normal width feet, these might be fine. If you have wide feet, these might not be for you.

I'm one of those who's still in mourning for . . . dang, can't remember the name, but IYKYK. They were bought by Teva a few years back, then discontinued entirely.Anyway, the Sypes are the closest I've found in terms of being lightweight and immediately comfortable (no breaking in).Note: I have flat feet (so my forefoot spreads out, requiring a generous toebox), and a very narrow heel. Other reviewers noted that these run narrow, so I ordered them in wide, and I'm glad I did.

I wear these approx 4-5 hours a day everyday, sometimes more, on my farm. They are genuinely waterproof (unless submerged or its a torrential down pour and it runs in the top) but still breathable. I am in FL so in the height of summer sometimes my feet get a bit sweaty but that's unavoidable, its really hot. Because I wear them so often and have a gait abnormality, I go through a pair in about 4 months, typically the interior lining shreds and becomes mishapen so they no longer fit correctly or the sole will separate (which I just shoe glue back together for a time). They are very comfortable for doing all kinds of chores and walking and climbing on my farm as well as hiking, even in loose sand. I have good traction wet or dry ground. DO NOT ever ever put these on a boot dryer or it will melt the plastic waterproof liner inside and they will shrink up to only fit tiny children's feet. Stuff them with papertowel or newspaper and let them air dry! I like the choices in colors, I've had the red, green, and blue, plus they offer a wide footbed, very comfortable.

The Oboz Sypes boots run a bit narrow, perfect for my foot but likely not for a person with wide feet. I wore the boots in the house for a few hours and loved the support. Next was a 4.5 mile hike, followed by a 6.5 mile hike, both on uneven dirt trails with roots. They were comfortable with no rubbing; no breaking in needed. They are touted to be waterproof but I haven't tried that yet. All in all, after trying boots by 6 different manufacturers, I am delighted with these. They are sturdy and seem well built, and I expect to use them for years.

After trying at least 4 different types of hiking boots over the years, these are the ones. I hiked 3 weeks in Scotland and in NC mountains, and they are comfortable and WIDE enough (I ordered an 8.5W). I walked through muddy bogs, sheep poo, rainy weather and my feet were dry. They have cleaned up well after my "muddy" trip was over. I am very pleased. Hopefully they will last a long time for the price.
