I'm writing this review 3 years after purchase. I use this for mushroom liquid culture. It still works as good as the day I got it!

I am a retired chemist. I missed having a magnetic stirrer so I got this one for use in the home. It helps me stir mixtures in the kitchen. lol, you can take the scientist out of the lab but not the lab ot of the scientist. This stirrer works well. I would like to have a heater/stirrer in one unit but for the price this was a good device even though it doesnt heat. It comes with different size magnets, but the only one of use is the large one. I will order larger magnets. The unit is not chemical resistant so I would not mix strong acids/bases with this: For that you need a ceramic top.

I use mason jars to mix sugar syrup for my honey bees. The process is pretty simple, fill the quart jars with either 2 (1:1) or 3 (2:1) cups of sugar, then add water. Shake the jars any time the mix starts to settle. In about 3-4 hours, with maybe a half dozen vigorous shakes, the syrup would clarify and be completely mixed.I decided to try using a magnetic stirrer. So far, the experiment isn't a failure, but it's not a resounding success either. In 2:1 mix (~3cup sugar/~1.5 water) the stirrer is overwhelmed by the settling sugar. It didn't help that the mason jars weren't perfectly flat bottomed. Once the sugar was shaken up enough to move the spinner, the stirrer stick would drift to the edges quickly, where it could act as a vibrating agitator, but not really spin. Once the mix reaches the state where there's only a little sugar at the bottom, the absolutely lowest setting will keep the spinner spinning and the sugar in suspension. This should help finish the mixing quicker, but I'm still going to be shaking jars to get the mix to the point where the spinner can handle to last 1/4 of the work.Update:1:1 sugar works a lot better. It takes about 30-40 minutes at low spin to completely dissolve. Setting it higher doesn't speed things up and is more likely to destabilize the spinner. It's a little finicky to get started, but once it's settled into a spin, I can leave it until it's done. It works better with jars that are completely or mostly flat bottomed, but the original jars with a mostly flat center do work. It just leaves a little bit more undissolved sugar around the edges.

Fácil de usar y manejar. Vino con 4 imanes y funciona sin hacer ruido. Yo lo uso para mezclar esencias y quedan muy bien

I took a chance on this, although I did not know if it would work for my purpose.I am using this to mix small batch peach and pear wine must in one gallon fermenting jars with 4" lids during the primary fermentation, rather than risk contamination from using a stirring rod.Even though the jars have a relatively thick curved upward bottom, are considerably larger than the stirrer, and are in a plastic storage box, the magnets are strong enough that I am able to run about 60% speed. Fast enough to oxygenate and mix well.Using the magnetic stirrer four time a day for 2 minutes sped up the aerobic growth stage of the fermenting cycle to half the time compared to using a stirring rod. Once the yeast bubbling was strong enough to keep the must mixed, I put an airlocks on and stopped stirring. This batch is going to be finished in record time. Two notes: it would be more convienient if I could put rechargable batteries in it, but since it runs on 12VDC, I just plugged it into a small UB1280 SLA battery I use for other things. Given the price, this works for me. The charger cord is too short to use on the kitchen table.Second, the magnets have a raised ring around the middle. (Type "B"?) I think this helps a lot on the curved bottom of the jars.I like this so much, I ordered a second one so I can leave both under a pair of jars in a plastic tote for the three days I need it. That will save time, and make ferment startup much more convienient. The plastic tote makes the whole setup very stable even though the jar bottom is curved and bigger than the stirrer.
