My dog does well with just the beeper, sometimes he gets a little distracted and I can easily change it to vibrate. We do not use shock because he has learned to listen to the beeping noise to determine if he is doing something inappropriate. I love the multiple strength setting for vibrate and shock, just in case I accidentally change the mode to shock, my dog wont feel it since it is at "0". The range is pretty far, I've only tried as far as 200 feet and it worked I've bought this collar twice. The first one lasted almost 3 years, not too shabby for a $40-$50 item. It stopped taking a charge so I bought 2 this time. It is perfect for dogs who love the water, if your dog is anything like mine (wanderer when off leash) this collar will work. There is a certain way to train the dogs with this retainer. I know a person who used it everytime the dog did something, which made the dog ignore the different settings.I would suggest having this petrainer as a back up to your normal discipline routine. My dog thinks of it as his way out to some adventure, whether it's the park, lake, or fenceless front yard. He sees it and he is overly excited.***If you buy it, please test it out for a few days so you can test out the battery life on the dog and on standby. I've had to replace one due to not holding a charge. They were great and sent me a new one right away. I though I would have had to wait but they sent one as soon as I reported it. Great customer service.

Some folks don't like these collars. I do. It takes very little to teach the dog about the "nick" or "jolt', following which the vibrate or tone is enough to deter unwanted behaviour. If the behaviour is just a minor problem, normal training is preferable. But if the behaviour is potentially harmful to the dog, this remedy, even a nick or jolt is better. With this collar, I can call the dog off a porcupine or a skunk before the inevitable happens. That is a lot better than the cost (friend paid $400 Vet Bill to remove mass of quills from her Weimaraner) and discomfort (to dog and owner in case of a skunk) associated with the risky behaviour. We haven't had to deal with the deer, foxes, raccoons, and coyotes, not to mention the large adult bear we picked up on the trail camera ... yet !!!I had a wee issue with this collar and contacted the company. Their remedy was complete and instantaneous without question. THAT is SERVICE with a smile. I bought another. No one should have only one dog.

I had admittedly low-expectations for this set, but it has been well worth the price. We camp regularly and have 3 dogs, we use the dual collar system to train them to be better behaved in the busy camping areas so we're not disturbing the neighbors. Most of the time, the vibrate function is enough to re-attain attention of the dogs, correct the behavior and avoid the barking and aggressiveness. The electrostatic correction works well, but isn't necessary in most cases.Range has never been an issue, these cover our 1 acre yard, as well as anywhere we camp. The dogs have gone romping in the lake (albeit, not fully submersed) and both are still working. Batteries last all day in practical use. Not intended to be left on the dogs for extended periods, so we attach them as necessary and remove them as soon as we can-- In our opinion it improves the training effects as well.

While I never thought that I'd be buying a shock collar for any dog of mine I have to say that this was a good purchase and works great with my dog who has difficulty hearing me when distracted. I actually don't think I am using the collar as most do I am finding comfort in knowing I can get my dogs attention without setting up a flair. As long as I have her attention, she listens quite well.Let me explain. Instead of it being used to correct behaviour. I am simply using it to get her attention. Most times I only have to use the tone. She starts looking for me knowing that when she hears the tone, she gets a treat when she comes to me. If the tone has not broken her attention from the distraction she found. The vibrate usually does (at level 15) . And she comes running. Twice she got farther than I wanted her to and I had to escalate to the shock, after trying the other 2. At level 3. That made her turn around and come to me.This unit has given me piece of mind, and her more freedom. We have nearly an acre at the lake that she can now run around in. We were on vacation for a week and it came in handy. Also way better to have a tired and happy dog, instead of one with pent up energy.Since we returned to the city. I have also taken her to the dog park with it on. Mostly she listened to my calls. Only had to use the collar on tone, then vibrate once. . Not sure if she was listening better than before due to the collar being on, or if it was just coincidence. But I'm happy. As well. She did a lot of playing and the collar was fine. Also charged both collars and the remote before the first use. And while it hadn't been constantly used during that week it was used for a total of a couple of hours in the day. As well i forgot to turn the collar off one night, so it was on for almost 24 hours that day. I still have not had to charge them again. I am happy with the battery life.My only suggestions to improve on the unit would be to have it already mounted on collars with a quick connect to make it easier to use than the buckle kind. Also the collar itself would be better than the plastic ones it comes with. And to have a button to press for each mode, instead of having to scroll through them. Although a suggestion for users would be to put it to the tone after using it on any other mode. That way you don't have to switch to tone when you need it and you can escalate the correction as needed.

I bought it on an amazon lightning deal, 2 collars and 1 controller for something like $55 and it is the best $55 I've spent when it has come to my husky.Huskies are one of the most stubborn breeds because of how smart they are. They won't do things unless they're getting something in return (aka treat motivated) but they are also escape artists. With this collar, I have trained my husky to walk next to me OFF-LEASH without ever having to shock him. He has only received one shock throughout the 4 and a half months we've had this product and it was in the beginning of his off leash training when he was almost hit by a car. I gave him a quick shock on LOW (less than 15/100) and he yelped and ran back to me (keep in mind that this is a 70 lb husky, he could really feel 15/100 so I have since lowered the setting to 10/100).For the most part, even at a dog park with lots of distractions, a beep will get him to come back to me. A vibrate will stop him in his tracks and he'll come running to me. I haven't ever shocked him at the dog park but his jerk-reaction to the vibrate is enough for him to know he's not supposed do what he's doing.Anyway, this is a great training tool and it allows you to go hiking, running, biking with your dog off leash (because a leash would make it dangerous) but still gives you the ability to call your dog back whenever you need. I also live on the west coast in a beach city and this collar has seen the ocean a LOT. I have never had a problem with it getting wet and its battery life is great. I'm not sure what other collar's battery life should be but on a full charge, it'll last me about 2-3 weeks of usage (for approximately 2 hours worth of walks/runs/park time per day). Obviously it won't last as long if you're constantly beeping, vibrating and shocking but that isn't what this collar is for.Instead of using the "beep" as a warning, we use it similar to a clicker. When I unboxed the collar, I charged it up and strapped it on him. For the first 30 mins, I would beep once in a while and immediately give him a treat. This ensures that he knows "beep" = treat and since he's wearing the collar, he'll always hear it regardless of how far away I am. Also this changes the mindset of the collar - it isn't just a behavior correction tool but also a treat indicator, so my dog won't run away at the sight of it.The collars itself:I haven't tested out the "330" yard range but I know it works well within 250 yards. The 'waterproof' works as far as I know, but I've never dropped it into the bottom of the ocean and fished it back up.The "collar" is a weird plastic that you'll have to cut for length but it works if you need it to be hydrophobic. The battery life is great since you don't actually use it much.
