These bags just don’t hold up to any stress so they’re not fit for purpose. They tear extremely easily which means that frequently when emptying the bin the bag gives way. The only solution is to take the whole bin outside to tip the contents into the collection bin.The idea of compostable bags made from corn starch is fantastic but the reality is that if they don’t perform (so that they have to use three instead of one) they not necessarily better for the environment.I won’t be buying this brand again.

We have been using these as trash bags for a while in 13 gal trash containers. They have a bit of stretch which makes them easier to put in the containers. We actually use these for regular trash believing that they will decompose in the dump better than plastic bags.

I tried these bags out because the description said they were .02 mm thicker than the other brand I had been using.Of course I can't tell a difference - the two brands function basically exactly the same. These are obviously not your usual heavy-duty kitchen bags, but they work pretty well for my purposes. I've been using these compostable bags for almost two years now, and the main takeaway that I have is that I can't be lazy about taking out the trash. The bag will not hold up to overstuffing, but it does hold up to a regular 13-gallon load pretty well. I've never had the bag break on me completely unexpectedly. If I leave it in there for too long, it will start to do what it is meant to do - decompose. It's honestly never too major - if I see the bottom of the bag is looking a little ragged when I take it out, I just slip another bag over it and it holds fine. Sometimes, even if the bag itself hasn't started to decompose, moisture will start to build up in the garbage can and it's a little wet when I take the trash out. I just do a quick wipe with some disinfectant, and it's fine. It doesn't smell any worse than trash in a regular garbage bag does. The bag doesn't have handles, but I make sure that I have enough to tie it off with by just leaving a little extra over the sides of the garbage can liner, and again, that works just fine without any real hassle. Overall, for me, any minor tradeoffs vs. a conventional garbage bag in strength and convenience are more than worth it for the added eco peace of mind.

I bought these with the intention of using the bags for my garbage bag. Not a great choice. The bags started composting within a couple of days, and accumulated moisture between the garbage can and the bag. I think it would be a better choice for outdoor yard waste, although I'm not sure how durable it would be with sticks and other sharp objects. If you take out garbage daily, this bag could work for you in the kitchen.

These are fairly thick and at first I didn’t like the scent of them, but I got used to it and now actually do like the scent. It’s sorta like a burnt wood kinda scent. These are perfectly sturdy if you don’t leave liquids lying in them for 24 hours or mire like my husband and teenage daughter. They’ll throw foods with liquid still in them like pepper ring stems in the juice. It’s acidy and it wears down the bag and makes it sticky. Then eventually it’ll tear if you make it too heavy.i use these for kitty litter box changes and our rabbit paper bedding changes. The cat box and rabbit dirty cage litter is quite heavy and I fill the bag up fairly well. I carry it down the stairs and out the door without issue. Except when my 7 month old Malinois puppy decides to grab the rabbit litter filled bag and tear a huge hole in it. Other then that I think they’re great, but unfortunately they been out of the 13 gallon for two months now it is but more. So if you want to be kind to the earth you need to be a little more careful when you use compostable bags, because the fact is. They aren’t plastic. So we can’t fill them with soaking wet items, let them sit like that and then pull them up and throw them around like plastic. It’s not the same that’s the point. That’s why these compost and plastic doesn’t.
