There is no better tool for demonstrating the magic of magnetism. In a simple demonstration you can show what cannot be described in a thousand words. Its simple things like this that can turn young minds into engineers.

It's made well but there are no instructions or suggested use. I used it to create a magnetetic field for a class.

There was no packing material in the box it was packaged in, and as a result, one of the terminal nuts was broken. See image. Otherwise, it appears to be as I expected it.

The silly reviews don't understand what this exactly I think that is the confusion. No it is not a magnetic core, the description doesn't say that either. It's simply a metal core. The small coil inside measures about 2.5ohms, the larger outside one measures about 40ohms. I stuck a small oscillator on the inner coil and the outer coil had voltage. It is a transformer. That's how transformers work. I bought 2. They are great demonstration units for showing how transformers work. You can add or remove the center rod and see the effects of doing so. You can also remove the center coil and see how that effects the magnetic fields. By itself it doesn't do anything. With a little knowledge you can make it do something. Some of the reviews have crazy expectations for a coil demonstration unit.
