I got this for camping. I am usually way off grid--no phone signal, no radio stations, no weather app updates on my phone. Thought I better be able to keep up with any dangerous weather expected, as trees have a tendency to fall in this area and can be deadly. This unit seems to stay charged up a LONG time! I haven't had to use the solar or the crank, though I do spin it sometimes for the heck of it. Flashlight works but I don't need that part. It is difficult to get the weather band to come in sometimes and have to do some serious tuning with the antenna and keeping my fingers on it, etc. But so far I have not been totally stranded with no weather info. That's the main thing. I wouldn't want to use it for music or news radio anyway but it usually has very limited pick up except for one strong and horrible station of course. It's pretty handy and does what I need it to do.

The crank doesn't appear to work. I am able to charge using usb cable but not using the hand crank. Not very useful when the power goes out. Radio and other functions seem to work properly.

There is nothing fancy about this radio. But if you are looking for a no-frills emergency radio, this may be just what you are looking for.The first thing that caught my attention was how small it is. In the current world of "everything is better if it's bigger", this caught me by surprised. However, it really does make sense, especially if you want to pack this in a bag for emergency situations.The tuner on this is a very basic one that reminded me of the old Radio Shack radio kits you could build where you wound a bunch of copper wire around a cardboard tube. Nonetheless, this radio pulled in stations in all three bands. I appreciate that there is even a green indicator to let you know when you have a station in tune. In addition to the "tune" indicator, it also has blue indicators for the four levels of power in the battery (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%), as well as a charging indicator when you plug it in to charge.The knobs are a little difficult to turn, but again, this is a very basic radio meant for emergencies. As far as sound quality, it doesn't exist. But again, this is for emergencies; not for mimicking a concert! The volume is plenty loud, though.The button on top (in front of the solar charging panel) switches the led light through the three power levels. I could not really discern much difference between the power levels (photos attached from lowest to highest). If you hold that button down for three seconds, it activates the flashing led and a rather loud and obnoxious siren from the speaker.The hand crank flips out when you need to rely on manual charging and is easy to turn. I cannot verify how well it works at this time, but I can definitely feel that it is turning the dynamo(?) inside to generate power to recharge the battery.I chose this specific model due to its proclaimed 5000mAh battery. It should last quite a long time with that amount of charge. All in all, I would suggest that this is a good unit to keep around for emergencies.
