You don't have to use these bags - you can just use the primary filter in the vac. I use my vac to pick up a lot of wood sanding dust and I found that the primary filter got clogged fairly quickly and the suction decreased. So I started using these bags.The bags trap and collect the dust, preventing it from clogging the primary filter. When the bag gets full, I remove it and discard it and the contents. I prefer that to dumping the loose dust from the vac, and trying to clean the primary filter.The bags are an extra cost but are worth it to me.These bags work well, they fit the vac inlet well, the are sturdy (so they don't fall apart) and don't reduce the air flow very much. I recommend them.

These work great at capturing dust. I have bad allergies, but these work very well at capturing dust so that I'm not left sneezing when cleaning my basement. Any bag will reduce suction, but these have minimal reduction so the suction is still very good. The downside is they TEAR EASILY when trying to put the bag in the vacuum. Suggest using your finger to open up the bag a little and take your time to avoid tearing. Once torn, the bag becomes pretty useless because it won't filter but suction is also impacted and the bag is a total loss.
