I've experimented with a variety of cheap and/or improvised solutions for lighting a project space for renovation projects in poorly lit places over the years, from corded clamp lights to generic rechargeable flood lights screwed to photography tripods. Never of it ever seemed to work very well. The clamps on the clamp lights don't grip well and can leave marks on doors, shelves, or whatever you clamp too (if there is a viable clamp location to begin with!) and the power cords are a hassle. As for the many rechargeable LED work lights out there, the battery life is rarely good enough to sustain for the hours of work time I need, and once it dies, you don't have use of it until it is recharged. Can you imagine if your other power tools worked this way? No bueno! It turns out that this Ryobi tripod light is what I've been after all these years. It's plenty bright enough for lighting up a whole work area of maybe 10' x 10', has a super easy to use tripod stand with adequate height, has reasonable build quality, and most importantly, it has a swappable battery from a known, quality manufacturer. Most of my cordless power tools are Milwaukee, but I bought into the Ryobi 18V system recently for a couple niche tools. I'm glad I did, because compared to the Milwaukee work light offerings, this Ryobi light is total bargain. It's brighter and cheaper than both the M12 and M18 single head Rocket lights. If I wasn't already in the Ryobi One+ ecosystem, it might be worth it just for the job lighting offerings.

This is a really nice work light. It folds up quite small, yet expands into a tripod configuration about 4 or 5 ft high (not higher, which would have been nice). The battery life is very good, and the quality and brightness of the light are fine for the work I do. Mechanically, I'd say the main pylon feels a little flimsy with its four or five extension tubes, but it's not a huge deal since the whole thing is so light. The whole rig ends up being kind of expensive by the time you get the light and a Ryobi battery, so it would be best for people who already have Ryobi batteries and chargers sitting around.Nitpicks: (a) I wish there was some way to get just the head and battery to work together as a much more compact work light for confined spaces like under a car dashboard or under the sink, and (b) it seemed a bit cheesy that they provide a socket to drive the light with external power, but don't include an AC cord needed to do that (so far I haven't needed or wanted that configuration, though; the battery provides many hours of light).
