I enjoying going out on our property to film wildlife. I use a golf cart because I have a mobility disability. If I were to get stuck somewhere, I couldn't step off the golf cart and walk back home. For that reason, I am quite conservative about taking a fully charged phone with me.However, I also use a Bird ID app on my phone which, when it's running, records the bird songs in the area and identifies them. Usually, I hear the bird, press play, wait for the app to ID the song, then stop the recording. But, sometimes I get into filming a bird and let that recorder go on and on which ends up wasting a lot of battery power (and sometimes catches a rare bird that I didn't even know was in my area!) I'm surprised at how much charge is drawn by running that recorder function.I have gotten stuck a few times and had to call my husband to rescue me. He brings a tractor to pull the golf cart out of the predicament I'm in. But, he's not always available, and he doesn't routinely think about checking in on me when I'm out because I've scolded him for calling and scaring off a bird I'm filming when the phone rings. I also enjoy staying out until dusk because I can catch some species (like owls, deer, foxes) at that time that I might not otherwise see, so he doesn't worry if he hasn't heard from me as it's getting dark.I hoped that this solar charger would give me some peace of mind that, if my phone charge dropped to near nothing, I wouldn't be completely disabled in the field because I can't call home. For my needs, this isn't going to offer any sense of added security. The charge time is VERY SLOW. I plugged in my phone at 59% charge with full sun. 30 minutes later, the charge was displayed at 57%.When I go out to film, I will continue to take along a Portable Charger Power bank, as I have been doing. I don't think I can rely on this product for my situation.

I ordered this solar charger for outdoor trips and camping. The panels fold up really small when you're not using them - about the size of a paperback book - so it's easy to pack. When you unfold it, there's a good amount of panel space to catch sunlight. In direct sun, it does a decent job charging a power bank or phone. You'll get better charging if you can keep it aimed right at the sun, but even in less perfect conditions it still puts out enough power to slowly charge devices. The build quality is good for something that needs to handle outdoor use. The case protects the panels when folded up, and the connectors feel solid. It comes with a USB cable that works with most devices.Just keep in mind it works best with a power bank as a buffer - charging devices directly can be slow if clouds come by or the sun angle isn't great. But for keeping basic electronics running during a camping trip or hike, it does the job.

I think this is best for regular charging and I wouldn't count on it for emergencies. We live in the south, so have plenty of direct sunlight. It does charge when it's in direct sunlight for a long time. It doesn't charge fast though and will run out if not constantly in the sun. It's a good idea but I don't think the tech matches the description yet. It is well made and durable. The carrying case is convenient.

There's definite drawbacks when it comes to solar power and a Midwest winter, charging did occur, just took quite a while, but I'm looking forward to testing this out over the summer when we have full sun again!
