Shimanao makes really quality dual pivot brakes. These are medium cage so they will work on lots of the older bikes also. I used it on a 20 some year old Surly pacer road bike.

Bought this to replace a 2011 Shimano 105 caliper that had finally worn. This caliper is identical in design, and works great. It's heavier, but if would rather save a few dollars than a few grams, you can't go wrong.

I purchased this Shimano brake (got the front one at the same time) to replace the calipers on my 2009 road bicycle, which came with Dia-Compe BRS 101 caliper brakes. Both these brakes are mid-reach - Shimano 47-57mm and Dia-compe 43-57mm. The original brake lever/caliper always felt soft (mushy) and not crisp. I changed the levers but felt the same, so I decided to purchase this Shimano calipers which are much beefier and has matte finish, which happen to match my other components. The difference between Dia-compe and Shimano is very clear - unlike Dia-compe's soft feel, Shimano brakes are much more responsive, likely due to rigid brake arms. Keep in mind that, I am comparing with the old, used brakes with brand new ones, so I am sure that is a part of it, but I am pretty happy with the purchase.

Nice quality construction. I gave it 5 stars even though I couldn't use it on my bike. My fault - I should have read the Q&A section before ordering. I converted a 1975 Schwinn Le Tour to a fixie with 700cm rims. In this configuration, the rear caliper needs a loooong reach. Had to go with a Tektro long reach unit instead. Make sure you measure your bike before ordering, because there are long reach calipers and really long reach calipers. Included a photo of my rear caliper to illustrate the reach measurement.EDIT: Max reach on the Shimano R451 is about 57mm. Max reach on the Tektro R559 extra long reach is about 82mm (As measured by me. Manufacturer's spec is 72mm.)

A year or so ago I bought a Giordano Libero bike because I wasn't ready to make the investment in a more expensive bike (mainly because I wasn't sure how much I was going to use it). Turns out I used it a lot, but there was a few things I needed to upgrade to make it less infuriating to ride. The main thing was the brake calipers. I searched far and wide for something that would fit (and those shorter-reach calipers that apparently everyone is using just wouldn't reach far enough. ) Finally I found these. FINALLY something fit. My ride has changed so much, I can finally brake from the hoods without feeling link my hand is going to snap in half. I also ride a four-mile 2,000 ft elevation gain ride frequently, I used to have to stop half-way down to give my hands a rest. Not anymore. I can go straight down and straight up. Definitely worth the investment. Easy to install and adjust. If you're installing this on a Giordano Libero you will probably have to do what I did - bore out the existing hole for the caliper just a little bit - it wasn't quite big enough.
