I broke an exhaust manifold stud and this thing came in clutch! It gripped the stud well and made removal from the head extremely easy. It works well and isn’t crazy expensive.

Great product I would recommend for anyone trying to remove a broken exhaust bolt stuck in the head with five threads protruding.Unfortunately when I got the broken stud out, I tried releasing the stud from the extractor, the unit got jam and stuck and started to fall apart, the locking ring in the extractor started to pop out of the unit. I had to return the unit with the stud still in the extractor. Will rebuy extractor for broken exhaust manifold bolts.

Worked great to remove snapped studs off a turbo exhaust housing. As others have said there needs to be enough stud left for the tool to grab onto, so I was only able to remove 3 out of 4 broken studs. The last one I had to weld a nut onto in order to get it out. Not the fault of the tool, which is well designed and seems like it can take some abuse. I would be tempted to just use this tool instead of the double nut method on all studs I intend to replace because it works so well and gets studs out fast.

With an upcoming project, I armed myself with a variety of stud extractors, including three different kits from Irwin. I knew from my past experiences of dealing with the exhaust manifolds and exhaust systems that I just couldn't continue to take out my frustration by throwing wrenches and swearing (now have little kids next door). As luck would have it, the Irwin kit that I could have used was packaged incorrectly and the tool I needed was missing, so the Titan tool was my last resort. The tool seems to be built to take a beating. It cinched up easily without having to hold the tool while turning it too. Unlike a typical Jacob's chuck design which will hold firmly, this tool loosened when trying to turn it clockwise, so working a stud loose was not possible. With some heat, tapping, and a two foot breaker bar, I was able to remove all four studs. To be clear, my studs were still long enough to get a good bite on them. As a final bonus, I used the tool on a seized stud that was not broken. The thread damage was confined to the base, and it wasn't bad. I was easily able to clean up the stud for a spare (Hey, they're not cheap!)The tool performed flawlessly and I wished I knew about it years ago. I have no hesitation giving the tool a 5 star rating. I can't address it's use on a really short stud and it may not hold. I think a lot has to do with the hardness of the stud also. I read a lot of the reviews myself before deciding to add it to my tool collection. My thanks to all of you who have taken the time to share your experiences, good or not so good.
