I want to start this review off by stating the obvious. While this is a "Great" webcam it is still a webcam. It is of a much higher quality build than most webcams such as the glass lens and manual controls for the zoom and focus. The manual controls are great especially if you're in a static environment like a gaming setup.This however is the point where you can see it is definitely still a webcam. The colors will need adjusting to some extend depending on your lighting and you will need good lighting. It also doesn't play well with other devices, (though it's doing great on MacOS which is something I can't often say for webcams).When properly set up it captures really good detail and would be a great addition to any multi camera setup with some proper adjustments.Great camera quality for this price.

Here's what I don't like about using webcams:- regular webcams take in too wide a background- as I get close to the webcam, I look distorted- webcams lose a lot of detail, especially bothersome if you're using telehealth- webcams don't have as good a color fidelity as, say, a camera would have- webcams often can be used from only a fixed location relative to the displayHow this camera helps:- when this camera's lens is set to zoom towards the telephoto range, the background narrows - less to clean up before being seen!- when this camera's lens is set toward telephoto, your nose isn't significantly closer than your face, so you don't look as distorted - or distorted at all- though nowhere near what a modern SLR can do, this camera far exceeds most webcams and can show you in immense detail. You may have to up your game when it comes to using makeup or getting fill light to not have what can become a clinical presentation. On the other hand, for telehealth this camera is wonderful. You can clearly show every detail you want.- the included lens is glass, not plastic, and large with a better ability to disregard variations in manufacture, unlike the typical tiny webcam lens. The sensor is larger, too. All these add up to more detail from the lens onto a surface that senses detail better. Megapixels don't matter if the optical image isn't sharp from the start. This camera is much better than a typical webcam.- you will position this camera separately from your computer or tablet or lighting. In fact, because you'll want to use telephoto, you'll have to place the camera further back to pay attention to just you (and not a part of you). Set your light where you need it, set your camera where you need it, get the best of both and not be a slave to what a built-in camera forces you to do.What you might not expect:- if you're alone, you'll have to set something in the place where you'll be so you can pre-adjust focus. You won't be able to lean back and reach forward to focus at the same time- focus is not autofocus, so if you move around focus will not follow you- you truly will want to improve your lighting situation because more details will come throughOne more note: This camera worked right away, without drivers, under Linux. I was very excited to try this camera even though I haven't much experience or professional knowledge of cameras and photography. My expectations were elevated somewhat by the sharp and highly saturated imagery on their Amazon page. To that extent, I'm just a tiny bit disappointed with the results I've been seeing so far, and though I will share my complaints, it's with the caveat that I may need to 1) overcome a bit more of a learning curve, and 2) work within certain image apps to get better results.I first connected it to my Mac computer, and opened it via QuickTime, which is a very basic photo/video OS application. I really like having separate controls for the aperture, focus, and zoom, and each works well. In fact, I think the zoom is my favorite feature, as it does, for the distance it can achieve, pick up a good amount of detail. My main complaint is that the colors tend to look flat and slightly desaturated. I've played around with the aperature settings to bring in more light but it doesn't help. Again, it's not bad, just a little less than I hoped for.I then tried using it with my Android phone, which required some image app to allow me to select the camera that was connected to the phone's USBC port instead of the default phone's camera. I tried the most popular/well-rated apps but what they produces weren't great for this camera either. Photos look dark and distorted, and an attempted video had a half-second delayed audio track. Again, I might need to learn ways to correct and improve these problems but it's always nicer when it works as promised right out of the box.One other gripe is the stand. Included in the box is a package of screws and expanders. I'm assuming this is for installing it to a surface, but I'm not sure what to install it to. The instructions offer no mention of the screws. One thing's for sure: you definitely want the camera secured to something stable. Twice I tried to balance it using the stand, and twice it fell over (fortunately on cushioned surfaces).For all of my gripes, I genuinely see it as a four star camera, and would not return it if purchased; however, I also expect that the more familiar I become with using it, along with finding better apps for my phone especially, I'll enjoy the results at a five star level.

This is not supposed to be used as a webcam but I love using it as one. I should have bought the 12mm version for my use but this works as well (buyer's mistake on my part) since I can mount it far enough away above my monitors. I love the manual focus, zoom, and lighting controls since the typical webcam autofocus always frustrated me. The color is not the best to use for a webcam but all I cared about was the focus which is phenomenal.

My only con would be that the focus is highly sensitive so can be fiddly to get just right and then lock into position without disturbing the focus setting. Overall very happy with the product.
