I normally visit my brother in Ottawa during Fall and Winter and find myself cycling and/or x-country skiing in and around the city. I needed to be in touch with family and friends while undertaking these activities, but I found it was too expensive to get my UK phone plan cover extended for my stay.So I undertook some research to see if I could identify a solution that was, inexpensive, easy to setup, and didn't require an additional device!I concluded that the PhoneBox Preloaded 15GB Canadian SIM Card | 30 was a possible solution!Further review confirmed that it was easy to set-up (on arrival in Canada) , allowed and gave me the right level of scope re data for calls, text, Internet etc. and the clincher was that SIM card fitted into the dual SIM port on my existing phone - so no need to purchase a Canadian based phone!!I got the SIM card sent to my Canadian accommodation address: put into my phone ( easy to do) , registered it via their app on the WEB : received a phone number and then selected the additional card as my new default SIM card on my phone for the period of my holiday (This only took a took a minute) .Then OFF I went! The cover of this particular SIM was 30 days - and it more than spanned my three week break. It meant I could use Google Maps re directions; use flight Apps, Bus Transport Apps, texts and local etc. - without utilising internet at airports and cafes.Although I am IT technical - this is definitely a solution for the non-tech folks out their!A great solution and it worked a treat!

Follow the instructions that come with the SIM card to activate via a computer it prior to travelling - you specify the date that you need it to be activated and when you arrive in the country, just insert/enable the SIM card and within a couple of mins it'll start working. I can verify that it came with the 8GB of data as promised and lasts for 30 days.I've used these on two separate trips to different parts of Canada and it's worked perfectly both times (first time took ~5 mins to start working, second time worked straight away). I will purchase again for future trips. The only thing I would say is it's not cheap (all Canadian SIM's are expensive, so it's not a bad deal). Watch the price for a while before purchasing, as I've seen it fluctuate quite a bit on Amazon (I paid £24, but have seen it at £37!).

I had a few concerns prior to purchasing the card. But, the Amazon community responded kindly and I decided to buy the SIM card. Here were my concerns, and what actually happened.1. Does the 30d period start from date of purchase or activation? Date of activation. I didn't activate the card for more than a month after purchase.2. I would be in Canada 2 days. Could I activate the card a day ahead of that? Yes. I got online, started an account a week ahead and I set the activation day for one day before the day I would be in Canada. At 3:30am of the activation day, I received the Canadian phone number from Phone Box. Once I crossed the border, I took out the US SIM card and put in the Canada (PhoneBox) one.3. Will I mess up removing the old SIM card and inserting the Canada one? It was very, very simple and took about 15 minutes. Half of that was removing my Otter Box. I did have to reboot/restart the phone twice for full activation, but it worked! I just put the US SIM into the envelope that had held the Canada one and stowed it for my return.4. Will I only have data? Or, will I be able to make calls and send text messages too? I could make and receive calls and text messages to/from the States. My phone apps worked flawlessly, without WiFi, using only 0.5Gb of data during my stay.5. Will I be able to put my old SIM card back in when back in the States. And, would it work? It was easy to put the US SIM card back in too. Had to restart the phone twice again and it worked. This time I did it out of the trunk of my motorcycle at a US gas station. It took about 15 minutes total.6. Would the Canada SIM work in the US once back? It worked for about 5 miles into the US, but then no coverage. This was exactly as anticipated. The network was Rogers and I had 5G coverage the whole way. I even rode the ferry and had a strong enough signal for all my needs during the two hour trip. This card did more than I expected and I will certainly be purchasing again for my next Canada trip.

I recently migrated one post-paid and three prepaid services (for coworkers) to PhoneBox and the process could not have been any easier. For example, my wait time for customer service (to port my numbers over) never exceeded 10 or 12 minutes and it only took 3 keystrokes on the dial pad to get to the correct department. The personnel were courteous, knowledgeable and true to their word with respect to the process. Aside from value, I really enjoy the 4G LTE speed on the prepaid accounts. Most other prepaid services restrict their data speeds to no more than 3 Mbps, even though they are clearly using the 4G network. With respect to THIS $40 offer for 8GB, it provides a great opportunity for anyone to try the service prior to signing over to it, as the activation is easy (read the attached instructions) and no credit card is required unless you wish to continue with the service beyond 30 days. Speaking of "30 days", my ONLY criticism is not being billed on the SAME DAY every month, but rather every 30 days. Not a big deal, just an annoyance!
