The cover claims that the book is Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea," but when I opened it up, the actual contents is "Revelations of Divine Love" by Julian of Norwich - a Christian text. I guess Benediction Classics is running some sort of religious scam, trying to trick people into reading Christian texts by any means necessary.

Read it in a day, mainly sitting by the water’s edge in Mexico- so not far from where it is set. Such a simple story but so beautifully and powerfully written - you can almost taste the salt on your lips, and the rope burning across your hands. A classic for a reason. And timeless.

This is a perfectly crafted story that led to Hemingway being awarded a Nobel Prize for Literature. Those who dismiss it as anything less have most assuredly never challenged themselves to seek success against odds deemed by others as unobtainable.This is a great book; great literature, and well deserves the title of “Classic”.

Me gusto el paralelismo de la historia con la lucha y esfuerzo que muchos tenemos que hacer en la vida para lograr lo que deseamos. El pez es el objetivo, lo que deseamos, la cuerda y la lancha, los recursos, el mar, las circunstancias, lo tiburones, los obstáculos, el niño, un apoyo, un amigo.

No se si es lo mejor de Hemingway, pero sí que es lectura obligada. Es una preciosa historia de coraje, estoicismo y la lucha del hombre contra sí mismo. Recomendado siempre y para releer a lo largo de nuestras vidas.

Es como la tercera vez que leo este libro corto, pero para mí escrito con un estilo muy particular de Hemingway que te va describiendo cada escena del libro como si uno estuviera allí, sintiendo, oliendo, oyendo.

Por menos de 25 pesos mexicanos puede uno leer un gran clásico en su idioma original. En un par de días se puede terminar de leer y algunas de lecciones duran para toda la vida. Leer a Hemminway es aleccionador. Ampliamente recomendado.

「森の生活」なんかが、いまでも、ひそかに、読まれていて、いつかは、実現したいな〜〜と夢見ているオヤジも多いと思う。ヘミングウエイを、それと一緒にしては、ナンであるが、こういう豪快なフィッシングと、手つかずの自然、自給自足で日銭かせぎ（必要なだけ海から恵まれる）生活、富はないが豊な生き方、にあこがれるオヤジ（この頃は・・女性でも・・）は数知れないと思う。海で一人乗りの小舟で漁をする人なら大いに共感できると思うが、アタリがきた竿の手ごたえと、それをいつまでも執拗に追う熟練の手さばきと、まだ姿も見ぬ獲物との、駆け引き。心理戦。粘り。・・・いつしか、姿を確認できない獲物に、同士としての共感を覚え、互角の戦いぶりに尊敬をいだき、互いの孤独の時間と体力、持久戦の駆け引きで、しだいに敵ながらアッパレ！と、情がうつる。fishと、相手に叫びかけるカタチの独白で物語は進行するが、胸の内で独りごつのではなく、海の中でもがいている相手に向かって、大声で叫ぶのである。その情景がイイ！ず〜〜っと、海中深くもぐった格闘相手との、死闘かくごの長期戦で話は進む。開高健さながら、こういう格闘技っぽい全身でぶつかる豪快な海釣りには、男のロマンがある。文章が巧い！そぎ落とした文章。互いに狙い定めた獲物をあきらめず、獲物に対する敬意すら感じられる光景は、執拗に追い続けることで、互いの生存を確認しているような描写。まだ・・・生とるな〜・・こういう生死をかけた大冒険は、男の（というかオヤジの）ロマンではないか？と思う。ちゃらちゃら女が登場しない。The old man というセリフは、敬意、尊敬の念に満ちている。「The old man 」の熟練した技と経験知に対する敬意が確かに存在した時代の男のロマンである。Fish, I'll stay with you untill I am dead. He'll stay with me too.Fish, I love you and respect you very much. But I will kill you dead before this day ends.You are killing me, fish. But you have a right to.Never have I seen a greater, or more beautiful, or a calmer or more noble thing than you, brother. Come on and kill me. I do not care who kills who.いいと思います！！体をはって、どちらが勝つか、どちらが生き残るか？こういう闘いが、正義にかなっている哲学に至るのは、作者がヨーロッパの戦場で不条理の悪夢を経験したからでしょうか？
