I have tried several Meat Thermometers over the 10 years and was not pleased with their reliability and durability. They were all wired thermometers and they have some great features like a smartphone app that indicated the meat’s internal temperature and alarm when the meat reached the proper temperature. However, they were tempermental - you could not allow the wires to touch anything in the BBQ grill or Oven, not get the ambient temperature over 300-400 F degrees, plus you could clean/wash the wires with any water. There were not fun to store and keep in good working condition. However, at the time they were worth the hassle. Finally I found the TempSpike XR totally Wireless Meat Thermometer that solved all these problems. So far, it has been very reliable, durable and has temperature controls with alarms to both internal and ambient temperatures. It has Two Probes, each of which can be set for separate temperatures which can be very useful for cooking meats with different thickness or two different meats be cooked at the same time. The base unit is very compact, portable with a Kick stand when need and a back lite display to see in the dark. I love that it has a strong magnetic on the back so you can attach it to the refrigerator, which is very handy. The one complaint I have is the directions could be much better on how to program the temperatures. Although, the base unit comes with several pre-programmed meat temperatures, since I live at high altitudes those temperatures do not cook accurately for me. To address this the TempSpike XR offers a separate Program feature but it isn’t very clear how to use this. So I called their Customer Support team and was able to figure it our and now I am very happy with how that feature works. I suggested they update their YouTube with better and easy to understand instructions and they agreed and will be updating that video instruction YouTube.. I am also very impressed they actually have a phone number and people who answer that are well trained and very helpful - most companies today only provide on-line FAQ’a or self help, so I was delighted to know they invest in live customer care professionals to answer questions. Surprisingly, the TempSpike XR is very well priced and affordable - it is no more expensive the wired meat thermometers I didn’t care to use. I highly recommend the TempSpike XR to anyone who cares about cooking their meats to the proper temperature they want - for me I can now not have to guess or watch over closely how to cook a RibEye steak to my liking and impress my guests with how well it was grilled.

Have used the Tempspike on several cooks now on a charcoal kettle and pellet grill using both high heat and low and slow. Both sensors seem to give accurate readings based on a portable thermopen to check readings. I like the RF technology as it gives a reliable long range reading as my living room is around 60 feet from my Barbecue area and have not had any drop-outs yet. I did notice its best to turn on at barbecue (Base and probes in close proximity)for the probes to connect to the base, which can then be moved as far away as needed. The build quality is superb the lighting adequate and it is very easy to program and use with many presets and even has a rare-medium-well done setting that's easily set. The best part and the reason I bought this is because it is wireless and does not require a cellphone which makes it self contained. This has replaced 2 other wired temp-probe sets and I highly recommend this dual probe Tempsike system. If anything pops up over the next year I will update.

Really made pit roasting a whole hog much easier. I could see the difference in ambient oven temperature from front to back and correct with placement of coals. My only suggestion for improvement are the spike ends. They slip out too easily. I can see that adding a permanent barb would compromise charging. Perhaps make elastomer sleeve with barbs. This could be discarded after use so the spike would still fit the charger.

Using the ThermoProXR the second time, the end blew out of the probe. The smoker was reading 225 and I put the probe on the shelf to compare temperatures. About two minutes later there was a "pop" and the probe was destroyed. I contacted the manufacturer to get a replacement probe and it was shipped the next day free of charge. Great customer service and the product does everything I need. Now, if the USPS could do the same, it would be great. It took 10 days to get from Texas to CA.
